Half of England’s small towns are transport deserts. Without reliable buses, rural communities face isolation and lost opportunities. We’re urging the government to act now, with guaranteed service levels and fair funding.

Reform UK says it would pull all subsidies from wind & solar - even existing contracts. That’s a huge risk to rural jobs, energy security & climate action. Climate change is the biggest threat to the countryside. Net zero, done well, is our best defence.

The government plans to build 40,000 homes on brownfield land in 10 years, but there’s space for 1.2 million. We back a brownfield-first approach, but it must deliver truly affordable & social housing, not just starter homes.

🏘️ Homes are being built across England, but without the schools, shops & doctors families need. We need affordable, sustainable, connected communities. Not isolated, car-dependent estates. The government must prioritise brownfield land today.

We’ve been campaigning for changes to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill, & the government has listened. Its amendments are a real step forward, but we’re not done yet. We’ll keep pushing to protect local voices and keep nature at the heart of planning.

We’ve dug into the Solar Roadmap, and while it’s great to see some wins for our campaign, there’s still work to do. 👥Communities must be heard from day one. 🌾Planning protections need to stop profit-first land grabs. 🏡Rooftop solar should lead the way.

Climate change is an undeniable threat to food production & farming livelihoods in the countryside. Government must help farmers build resilience long-term, improving the health of farmland soils and supporting farmers to embrace nature-based solutions.

Great to talk about decarbonising homes at the @NetZeroAPPG, but we asked what plans there are to make use of large-scale roofs on logistics warehousing & farm buildings. This 'wasted space' should also be covered with #solar panels to make best use of our finite #land ☀️.

Two gov't announcements today - a consultation on planning committees and support for SME builders. We've long called for a more diverse housing market, and think the role of planning committees should be protected. It's big developers - not local people - who are slowing.
