Ontario’s education minister expects the supervisors he has appointed at various school boards to bill $350,000 each per year, money which will come from the coffers of the local boards.

NEW: the Ford government’s appointed school supervisors can spend up to $350,000/year, according to the education minister. That money will come from school board budgets, not the ministry of education. To compare: the TDSB’s 22 trustees made just over $550,000 last year.

This is unacceptable @PaulCalandra @fordnation. CPIC has a right to engage parents. Why can we not have open and transparent meetings broadcasted to our parents??? Is there something you dont want #parents to know??? #Ontario #Education @TinaYazdani @ColinDMello

Ontario’s education minister said he banned livestreams of school board meetings to “bring down the temperature.” Critics fired back, telling him to “fund the system” if he wants to cool things down. Paul Calandra’s now “taking another look” at the ban after parent backlash.

“The judges were very clear this is a significant decision. They wanted to take their time because it impacts all ONT Boards. There's board #overreach & misinterpretation of the Education Act by a number of boards of education. #Boards pay attention & Ministry of #Education."

#UNDERFUNDING by @fordnation = #specialeducation gutted, #parentcouncils raising money for basic needs in schools, school renovations on hold, programs/resources torched, overcrowded classrooms, #children suffering. @PaulCalandra #parents are stupid. We know the plan. #Ontario

When class sizes grow, individual attention shrinks. Students become numbers instead of names, and teachers are stretched thin trying to do the impossible. #abed #onted #cdned #edchat

Lecce funded education below the rate of inflation by $6.35B. Almost 20,000 Ontario students couldn’t attend school last year due to lack of special education supports. @OntAutism tells us situation will worsen without school trustees. https://t.co/fcWRPxj56w

“The province’s recent sidelining of trustees at four boards is not about improved governance. It is about erasure. Erasing local democratic governance severs the link between schools & communities & undermines accountability to the public.” https://t.co/hPLZYf2YXd #onted #onpoli

“The solution isn’t cutting trustees,” she says. “It’s properly funding schools so they don’t have to keep making cutbacks to balance the budget. Every year it’s cuts, cuts, cuts — when what we need is investment.” https://t.co/ELadenFDmu #OntEd

Mike Harris knows nothing about #education #failedteacher or even how to run a province. This is the guy that sold out ##Ontario for 3.1 B when they sold the 407. it's worth 30B today. Imagine how that revenue could have helped #students @TheAgenda

This is 100% silencing #Parents & it is on purpose to stop the spread of Information by @fordnation @PaulCalandra. It has zero to do with privacy because live streaming has been happening for years. It is the tax payers & parents right to know what happens in these meetings.

“The teachers are telling us: classrooms are feeling unsafe,” backlash grows over increased class sizes for special needs students in the TDSB on the same week the Ford government restricted public access to special education meetings. “This is silencing voices,” one parent said.
