NYC politics is heavily influenced by relatively little-known local political clubs. And @CityAndStateNY editorial director Jonathan Lentz has put together an incredible resource – a list of 50 of the most powerful local political clubs:

Smoke-filled rooms might be on the decline, but old-school institutions, campaign-driven operations and advocacy-oriented organizations still harness political power.

The process for electing judges is too often opaque, but it’s so incredibly important. Join us at this important forum where @scrutinize_org will walk through their new database for evaluating judicial candidates, so that we can elect judges who truly administer justice.

Looking at national polling, it's clear that passing New York's Earned Time and Second Look Act is not just the right thing to do -- it's also good politics. These policies are wildly popular across the US! To learn more about these bills:

New York lawmakers have an opportunity to advance public safety, facilitate better reentry outcomes, and give incarcerated people a meaningful opportunity to shorten their sentences.
National polling shows strong support for second look & earned time policies. NY lawmakers should prioritize passing these crucial reforms before the session ends. These policies will help formerly incarcerated people rejoin the workforce while advancing public safety.

We’re down to the wire in the last few weeks of committee meetings and sentencing reform is essential in advancing justice and expanding the workforce. @CarlHeastie @AndreaSCousins @SalazarSenate let's get these bills on a committee agenda before the end of session!
As the New York legislative session comes to a close, it’s urgent that we pass the Earned Time Act & Second Look legislation. It’s time for fairness and rehabilitation in New York’s criminal legal system. We must adjust our perspective and end our system of mass incarceration.
