@CJCHCM I commented with other colleagues that journals can’t find reviewers, papers pile up, and delays grow. That’s what happens when you don’t pay reviewers but expect them to finish in a week for free.

Same experience with Clinical and Experimental Allergy. Three months with no decision on review and no communication from the editors — only one email suggesting withdrawal. We ended up withdrawing the paper, in contrast to our will.
Disappointed to have to withdraw our manuscript from PLOS Genetics after nearly 3 months without even an editor assignment. In 30 years, I’ve never seen such delays before initial review. Authors’ careers deserve more respect.
