These seats in Virginia couldn’t of been flipped without them and the many interns that have worked on these campaigns bc they believed in the candidates and their willingness to serve others.
As national media outlets start covering Wichita and COVID-19, it’s important to remember to support the city’s local outlets and journalists who have been tirelessly covering this topic for months now.
Now that I’m settled in a bit… I’m so happy to share that I started at
@KMUW
as a reporter this week 🌟 Being a lifelong NPR listener, this has been a dream come true and I can’t wait to learn even more. Story ideas? My DMs are open!
"You might have the right to put yourself at risk [of COVID-19], if you want to, you really don't have the right to go and infect the cashier at Dillon's when you're buying groceries," Mayor
@BWhippleKS
said this morning at the city's weekly media briefing.
Please tell me why I started crying watching this??? There’s already been so much growth in KC since I was a kid and I’m so excited to see what Jason can do for it.
JUST IN: The death of 17-year-old Cedric Lofton has been ruled a homicide, according to a recently released autopsy. Lofton died in September after becoming unresponsive while being held at the Sedgwick County Juvenile Intake Center.

Story to come
Personal news: Next week, I’ll join
@KWCH12
as a digital producer. I’m excited to be able to continue my journalism career in Wichita and to learn from an award-winning team. These past few years at
@sunflowernews
have been a blast, but it’s on to the next adventure now 🌻
Ahead of the vote on a state constitutional amendment about abortion, a thousand people marched in downtown Wichita for abortion rights Saturday. Story for
@KMUW

Six months sober today — spending the day doing interviews for The Range, cleaning, baking, and relaxing bc I would’ve been too hungover months ago most Sundays to do any of that 💗
My public radio career is now complete with a feature in
@NPRmageddon
. I'm imagining my sidekick is my dog, Bruiser, who somehow gained super powers in dystopia.
Incredibly disappointing to see that local news is the main driver of misinformation about "fentanyl exposures." We can't take what police and government officials say at face value, ask questions, talk to actual experts on drugs and drug policy.
Girlies be careful walking around downtown Wichita. Just had someone follow me, take pictures of me, and try to talk to me between the downtown Starbucks and Naftzger while walking my dog. Literally would not leave me alone until I started approaching a family in the park.
@JerryMoran
Sen. Moran, I am one of your constituents. I met you while I was interning in DC for a different Senator and believed you were someone I can respect. Now, I cant. You have sent a clear signal to survivors of sexual assault that you do not care and we will remember.
Personal news: today was my last day at
@KWCH12
. I’m incredibly thankful for everyone at the station and for the opportunity to work there as my first gig after college. Can’t wait to share what’s next soon 🌟
@JoePompliano

I could be wrong, but I think that’s how it was back in the day. My dad said he’d help shovel there sometimes and they’d give them tickets. With as popular as going to games has gotten, I’m sure they can’t just offer that incentive as often to everyone.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be speaking with Wichita State students this morning in an effort to recruit students to work as diplomats for the State Department. It’s unclear how these students were chosen to participate in this event.
I was stuck in a non-compete as a young college graduate with very little pay, and hardly any room to negotiate that pay in its three-year period. I know plenty others that had to pay thousands of dollars to get out of theirs. This is a big deal for TV news folks.
Personal news: I’m so excited to announce I will be serving as the editor in chief of
@sunflowernews
for the 2019-20 school year. I can’t wait to lead this fantastic group of journalists (many not pictured but you get the point).
Helpful reminder on this last day of Pride — it’s okay if you’re not ready to come out yet, it’s okay if you’re still figuring it out. You don’t owe it to anyone ✨
Found out I’d be the next ad manager for the paper, then my big got engaged, and I bonded with my sisters tonight. Today has been one of the best days in a very long time.
Loved seeing my story about Prairie Rose in the Sunday print edition of
@kansasdotcom
. Incredibly grateful for the opportunity to tell Prairie Rose’s story, and for their story to reach even more people.

Two years without dad today — but celebrating a year of sobriety for myself today. While I have cause for celebration today, it’s also a day to remember dad and reflect on the grips addiction had on him and myself.
The Wichita City Council will consider decriminalizing the possession of fentanyl test strips and not using the city's municipal court system to prosecute people for possessing single-use marijuana at its upcoming meeting. More here:
@KMUW
JUST IN: Ascension in Wichita, as well as for all of their other facilities, will begin requiring COVID-19 vaccines for ALL of its associates. This also includes volunteers.
@KWCH12
Part of Douglas in downtown Wichita is closed between McLean and Broadway because of today’s Vote No March, according to police. Douglas is also closed further east because of today’s car show.
@KMUW
Personal news: I am incredibly honored to be recognized by KCM. The Sunflower also took home 44 individual awards at this year’s competition. I’m so proud of this year’s staff and how they managed everything thrown at them 🌻
FYI - I have called, emailed, and left several messages with Wichita Police, Cindy Claycomb, the city, and Open Door, and no one will speak with me about this.
Lines were drawn on the sidewalks at 2nd and Topeka where Open Door is, as well as on the other side of Topeka, to prevent encampments at that intersection. Signs also went up under the 2nd Street bridge where unhoused individuals are staying.

JUST IN: Sedgwick County Commissioner David Dennis announces the FBI (part of the DOJ) asked for information from the Sheriff's Office regarding Cedric Lofton's case the week of his death and that information has been turned over.
Filed my first national spot for
@NPR
today reporting on last night’s tornado in Andover. Be sure to continue to follow
@KMUW
and all the other impactful local coverage of those affected by this storm.

just launched its own weekly Spanish newscast. Incredibly excited for this new program, and to be able to deliver the news to Spanish-speaking Wichitans.

At this morning's Wichita City Council meeting, the council allocated up to $50,000 to HumanKind Ministries to continue funding a COVID isolation shelter for unhoused individuals. Multiple homeless shelters have had to close temporarily due to COVID outbreaks.
@KMUW
This anecdote is said frequently during Wichita City Council meetings, even as recently as a week ago when a city official claimed that touching a dollar bill w fentanyl can cause some effects or an OD — that’s simply not true. Great reporting by
@BrianMannADK
for NPR.
Police across the US say they're overdosing on street fentanyl they touch or inhale on the job. Scientists say the risk is "extremely low" and no overdoses involving officers have ever been confirmed. My latest story for NPR coming today on All Things Considered. Please tune in.
Just another reminder that you CAN NOT overdose on fentanyl from touching it. Wish media outlets like the AP would do a better job pushing back against this false narrative.
Made it through the year and I’m still smiling. This past year has been so hard for me mentally but I’ve grown so much from it. Life is beautiful and I’m so excited for what’s to come.
It’s one thing to work for an award-winning newsroom, but it’s another to work with people who actually support and mentor you to be a better journalist. Honored to work with everyone at

every day.

On June 12, 1924, George HW Bush was born. On that same date in 1987, Pres. Reagan stood at the Berlin Wall and commanded Gorbachev to tear it down. AND on June 12, 1998, I was born. June 12 is truly a historic day.
This summer has been a mess, but I finally got approved for my first apartment and paid the security deposit this week and will be (hopefully) moving back to Wichita next weekend :,)
Two years at

today! I’m proud of the truly original reporting I’ve done in my time here, which includes stories on Wichita City Hall, drug policy, addiction, recovery, and the wonderful people who’ve allowed me to feature them. Here’s to many more 💐
Just went LIVE for the first time on
@KMUW
for our end of the year pledge drive. Be sure to become a sustaining member so we can continue covering the news that you need.
Bruiser now, and Bruiser back in 2020. He’s 12 years old now, and has had diabetes for five of those years. I’ve learned so much from my sweet boy. So thankful for every day with him 💐
JUST IN: The City of Wichita has disclosed that files from law enforcement incident and traffic information was copied from its network during a cyber attack earlier this month. That includes SSN, license information, card numbers, and more.
@KMUW
According to a
@WichitaState
release, contractors will begin work today upgrading the WiFi in the Rhatigan Student Center. The upgrade will replace the wireless equipment from the 2014 renovation, “which has been failing to support the full client load during ... peak occupancy.”
Never really share my baking on here, so here’s my latest: hot dog focaccia. Couldn’t believe I made probably the best focaccia I’ve ever made and stuck hot dogs in it. Great for a little get together I had later in the evening ✨
Yesterday's decision by the Biden Administration to yet again move the goal posts is counterproductive and sends the wrong message at the wrong time. (1/x)
