Brendan Boyle has been at the center of Democrats' healthcare fight as ranking member on Budget. How he's working behind the scenes on messaging that he sees as key to flipping the House in 2026. Plus hints of Senate aspirations in 2028.

Boyle has been the ranking member of the House Budget Committee since 2023, and is playing defense as the Republican-controlled Congress ushers through Trump's spending priorities.

Surely after a record-setting government shutdown, weeks of paralysis + nearly 2 months without a single vote in the House, Congress should be ready to make up for lost time. Right? Maybe not. This week was a circus and it’s likely only going to get worse https://t.co/C5jXMrvvNs

2026 cannot be a repeat of 2025, 2024, etc. IF we are blessed with life and breath, some things must fall away. Easier said than done (full transparency), but we cannot, will not, have repeats. Discard what must be discarded (may translate into SM silence), but we will evolve...

Once again, a total inversion of the Obama era dynamic when low-propensity voters leaned D and the most determined voters leaned R. That was one reason many polls underestimated GOP strength in the red waves of 2010 and 2014.
New Marquette poll should be truly frightening to the GOP. The Dem's generic House ballot lead nearly doubled from 5 to 9 pts going from all voters to those certain to vote in 2026. A sign of a "hidden" Dem advantage that polls of all voters, most right now, could be missing.

.@JuliaTerruso and I tried to answer a few key questions: How does Shapiro — now a national fixture in the Democratic Party and possible 2028 contender — come out of the budget impasse lasting 135 days? Who was the “dealmaker” in the closed-door talks? https://t.co/sZyuCQFjVZ
inquirer.com
As Shapiro portrays the outcome of Pennsylvania’s 2025 state budget as an across-the-board victory, the path to get there was harder, messier, and longer than anyone in Harrisburg would have liked.

A great read by @JuliaTerruso on Mikie Sherrill’s campaign as NJ Dems fuel on penne alla vodka and agita as they sprint to Tuesday
inquirer.com
Sherrill is hoping a measured approach, plus an impressive resumé, can win her the New Jersey governor’s race in a year when both national and state headwinds are at play.

Marco Rubio co-signed a letter in support of the nomination of María Corina Machado for the Nobel Peace Prize. Here’s the letter he and several other GOP lawmakers sent to the Nobel committee last year. Mike Waltz also co-signed the letter.
President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will. The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.

The White House and Russ Vought-led OMB are dangling threats that Republican leaders on Capitol Hill are unwilling to make good on. Tied up in this split is a 2019 law requiring back pay for furloughed and excepted government employees after a shutdown ends.
BREAKING - fed workers to be repaid, per @SpeakerJohnson. I asked if he expects workers to be paid, how he sees current law, as the WH/ OMB has floated the threat of not paying them. Johnson was clear: workers should be repaid. He acknowledged there is other analysis.

🤔 Fetterman wouldn’t discuss his meeting with Thune “My son is selling cookies for the school. And I was just seeing if he was interested in it. He’s probably gonna buy some.” Wouldn’t say who initiated it or if it was about the shutdown “I just hope he buys some cookies”
👀 Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) just walked into Thune’s office Fetterman has been voting with Republicans on the House-passed government funding bill and has become increasingly isolated from his party

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility. Three say they've been shot w/pepper balls, sometimes while praying. All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court.
