If you want to gift a book to someone who reads, just ask them. They have a huge list ready at all times and you will avoid gifting them a book they might never read.

Too many of you are still extremely obsessed with Harry Potter. You are adults now. Grow up and get over that transphobic bigot.

"So, basically, the proposal [by Haryana government] states that if the hill/rocks are not at least 1 billion years old or greater than 100 metres in height, they don't deserve protection — feel free to do as you will with them. Such erudition beggars the imagination."

as birthday approaches yet again with the inexorable march of time, looks like life will get spent with me just commenting "me when" "me when" on other people's reels.

Out next month, Half Light by Mahesh Rao. Set on the brink of India’s ruling to decriminalise homosexuality, this is a tender, richly atmospheric and elegantly wry story of outlawed desire and the hope of a life beyond concealment.

"I wish he hadn't said anything at all, about his family and certainly not about us, insinuating what we are to each other, because though we are here now, though we hear the words spoken between us and feel each other's flesh, we will never be more than that." —Bolla

"Though their marriage had not been a solution, it had taken her away from Tollygunge. He had brought her to America and then, like an animal briefly observed, briefly caged, released her. He had protected her, he had attempted to love her." —The Lowland, Jhumpa Lahiri.

Sally Rooney: “I too support Palestine Action. If this makes me a “supporter of terror” under UK law, so be it. My books, at least for now, are still published in Britain, and are widely available … I want to be clear that I intend to use these proceeds of my work, as well as my

Another SFF anthology that I whole-heartedly recommend from the subcontinent is the Blaft Book of Anti-Caste SF. It's wonderfully curated and every single piece has so much to offer. I also interviewed the editors for @htTweets. Indie presses are truly doing great work.

Hats off to @ProfRavikantK for making use of Fanon's critical psychoanalytic inquiry into the relationship between UC men and LC women and UC women and LC men, especially at a time when thinking critically on this amounts to being cancelled for life. Ingenious work.
