Literally everyone has parents with comfortable finances. They all had their college paid for, and the car and phone and insurance. Every single person.
imagine being a Twitter gay in 1997 when Jean Smart AND Christine Baranski starred in rival productions of Promises Promises on opposite coasts (Jean in LA with Jason Alexander, Christine in NYC with Martin Short). You can’t.
do you feel it? The earth is starting to buzz... Audra McDonald is nearing the perfect age to play Desiree in A Little Night Music. Perpetual anticipation is good for the soul but it's bad for the heart.
The Gilded Age is like a joint production from Lincoln Center Theater and Manhattan Theater Club that blows their entire budgets but loses all the Tonys to something from Steppenwolf.
My cousin got the vaccine and two days later she went on for Carol Haney in The Pajama Game on Broadway and a hollywood producer who happened to be in the audience signed her to a contract at Paramount!
When will they get rid of the “or Musical” part of
#GoldenGlobes
nominations? This isn’t the 30s. Musicals are not all comedies just because they sing or dance or both. West Side Story (1957) is primarily a drama, it and the performances in it should be competing against dramas.
@WaitWings
I enjoy your stuff but like… what are you on about here? Grease Live was and is, to my understanding, widely considered the best or one of the best live musicals done since the venture of live tv musicals began again.
@katie_brennan
can’t pick! Cabaret, West Side, Sound of Music, Fiddler, Hello Dolly, Hedwig, Little Shop, Rocky Horror, Music Man, JCS, King & I, Poppins, Nightmare B4Xmas, Dancer in the Dark, My Fair Lady, All That Jazz, Chicago, Sweet Charity, OK!, Damn Yankees, Oliver, Annie, +more, in my ⬆️
@annabitgod
baldness is from mom + dad genes. / please can we stop deciding that body shaming is A-OK if it's for baldness? Baldness isn't due to male toxicity or privilege or evil, and it happens to most men. So why is *this* superficial mainstream-beauty-based body shaming ok + encouraged?
@kittynouveau
even more offensive... Target hires people who have sex. Her children have to shop with countless sexually active people in FULL VIEW. They may not know that from looking at these people, but they know... they know...
If you didn’t watch
#Schmigadoon
you missed something joyful, creative, unique, genuinely lovely and thoroughly fun. I hope you grab a bowl of corn puddin and give it a chance, whether you grew up with Golden Age musicals or not. I’m so very glad this show exists.♥️🎶🎞🎩👒🌈💥🎉

perhaps because the absolute default and common thing to do is to verbalize preference for the muscular body type IN LEU of the chubbier one. This is an approved thing to do in society and entertainment/media and has been for a very long time. I think the muscle guys will be fine
Theater is not a fascist country. Just as there's no secret group who collectively decides what is produced or what wins awards, critics do not decide what runs or what you buy tickets to. Put ur money where ur fingers are. Go SEE the shows that interest you. Bring friends.
@RollingStone
the fact that we could have had a Donald Glover Willy Wonka... a performer who is so interesting AND perfect for the role in so many ways...
@JillianChili
just so people know, those women who won were: Jennifer Lame (Oppenheimer, 2024), Margaret Sixel (Mad Max: Fury Road, 2015), Chris Innis (The Hurt Locker, 2009), Thelma Schoonmaker (The Departer, 2006), Thelma Schoonmaker (The Aviator, 2004).
@alexblagg
TV Writers will also be like “yeah, it’s so tough out there. My pilot didn’t go. I guess I’m “running” this Hulu show, and pitched on IP that was actually a random fortune cookie the exec got at dinner the night before— Apple ordered 9 eps but I wanted 10. It’s whatever. How r u?
My dad passed away. You don’t know him. This is him (he’s the one covered in water) — or one of the many hims — but this is how I will remember him. He didn’t know twitter existed but now a very very tiny section of twitter will know he did.
@JordanLi_Smith
No, I can't not disagree because the hill--or mountain-- I will die defending is that that the 1982 Annie is the best one. It's waaaaaay better than the TV movie. It doesn't even compare. (PS "Let's Go to The Movies" is a fantastic number, and "NYC" is overrated.)
Tears are insufficient. No artist has meant more to me. Don’t meet your heroes—but I’m so grateful I got to meet mine. To work near him on his shows. He would chat with me as if he weren’t a god. But he was. Sondheim is our Shakespeare, and I’m lucky i got to be here while he was
LAURA: I’m sorry Mrs. Stro, show business isn’t for me. I’m an anti-vaxxer.
STRO: What was that word you just said? Anti-vaxxer? I’m offering you the chance to star in the biggest musical East Hampton’s seen in 20 years and you say “anti-vaxxer”?!…

Hooray for Follies concerts. This album introduced me to Follies as a teen, and I wore it out. Follies is still tied for my
#1
musical. I think the concert is still my favorite recording overall, with OBC and Papermill all tied for different reasons.
@kihonglee
Your tweet about liking my tweet has DOUBLE the likes as the tweet you liked, and almost entirely from people who didn’t like the tweet you tweeted you liked. I hope my therapist is ready for this to be the only thing I talk about this week.
rn Carrie Bradshaw is urgently scouring every one of her columns and blogs (The New York Star went under) to delete every problematic thing she’s written, but wondering aloud “when do we move from cancel culture to cancel couture?”
@jmarsh5
@danmassoud
I'm sorry but I must be VERY firm on this. I'm obviously right (and joking). Also, I'm not sure I can relate if you think a pair of new shoes costs $300. (for the record, I live cheaply and travel often via prioritizing, but "everyone" i know has no debt + rich parents, period.)
@kenklippenstein
I'm not sure about the average writer, but in over a decade as a working WGA writer I never made anywhere near 1/384th of $498 million- collectively, let alone in 5 years. I may be below average, but as insane as this exec pay is, it's more insane than it's even being said to be
An American Tail is an incredible animated movie, kids movie, musical movie, movie. There’s really nothing like it, and this country would see immediate improvement if everyone had to watch it today.
@JinksDan
I’m gonna add... Candide with
@KChenoweth
and
@PattiLuPone
... the film of it isn’t enough, it was so beautifully performed. Also, in 2001 there was a reading of a musical of Marty by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams starring John C Reilly... I’d like a recording of that please.
@StageLeft_NYC
His performance in the 10th Anniversary concert is miraculous. That entire cast. But he was born to sing this role, in a way no else else I’ve ever heard sing it is

@JoePassmore
Both were entertaining. I think Symone gave a precise + present performance for the song. Kandy thinks humping around the floor like a sex pot always does the trick... it doesn't. Symone won it, and is also a *notably* stronger queen, in my lil 'pinion, it was Kandy's time to go.
@postproctorism
It certainly is *a* perfect musical. And it’s perfect with either ending!
When I’m recommending a musical to someone who isn’t a “big musicals person”, I find this is dependable as *the* perfect musical.
@Bambo_chewer

But like… I can’t get over that it’s not a birthday cake. It’s a cake that many get for a birthday, but it is sold like that in every Milk every day… it doesn’t even have his name written on it…
In fact, when the 1961 film of West Side Story came out, the
#GoldenGlobes
had Best Drama, Best Comedy, and Best Musical. WSS competed as musical against 2 others. 2021 year has more than enough musicals for a separate musical film category! Justice for musicals!
For the 2nd time in a row this week I randomly turned on ANNIE (1982) exactly in the middle of Ann Reinking doing “We Got Annie”, and nothing makes me more sure of my powers as a homosexual.

If you’re not haunted by the fact that Bernadette Peters never got to play Joanne in Company in a refreshingly against-type casting coup, then you’re truly dead inside.
writer appreciation tweet for The Rainbow Pages + any1 hiring LGBTQ+ writers. Got an inquiry from an exec I didn’t know, for a job I want, who found me via RainbowPs! It felt great to see that people actually use it. Hire queer writers! For queer + non-queer stuff!
#WGAPrideBoost
Why is no one talking about the
#OscarNoms
snub of Nina Arianda? Her role and performance deserved a nomination at least as much as her wonderful and nominated cast mates.
Happy birthday to Patti LuPone! In my youth I had the luck/joy of working with Patti on amazing productions of 3 of my favorite musicals, while I was assisting Lonny Price. She was everything I wanted her to be as a performer, but even more as a person. A legend for a reason. 👑
@kevinddaly
I just can’t believe this star who’s been doing Broadway shows for 65 years only has 2 competitive Tonys. And both are for the wrong shows.
@palmerrachelc
Yeah because if you sit it apparently implies you aren’t constantly either looking for something to do to justify your measly pay, or available without the lag time of you standing up if someone above you decides there’s anything you could do for them right that second. It’s cool
@TheWittyGirl
if you date men, it's VERY likely you'll have an ex go "prematurely" bald. Baldness isn't a result of being pathetic or gross or bad, and doesn't deserve this freely accepted shame culture. You didn't win because your awful ex is bald, you won because he's awful and is your *ex*
@letterboxd
The only thing in this trailer that gives me any hope is “from the director of Paddington” (even more reassuring is that he also wrote Paddington, and wrote and directed Paddington 2, and also wrote this movie) … but that’s it.
@katereinking
My favorite part is when ppl tweet something that seems to reflect an inherent lack of understanding based on the question posed, or doesn’t effectively communicate their thought, then get snarky when you engage with a real answer AND u agree. Also love the passive aggression. 👏
@Dave_Horwitz
agent of 7yrs dropped me (taking commission the entire time without getting me a job *once*) because the agency didn’t “have the bandwidth”, and said straight-faced “I blame myself, I just wish I’d worked harder to get your career where it should be so this wouldn’t be an issue.”
