👏🚨📰 Bravo! President @Claudiashein announced today an increase to #sodataxes to address the massive disease burden of sugary beverages 🥤☠️ Funds will be used solely for health — a bold move to prevent NCDs in one of the countries most affected by soda consumption. 💪🏥🇲🇽

Bundle of food policies being implemented in Ghana. Quite embarrassing being from NZ where none of these policies are being implemented. Excellent advocacy work by ⁦@alaar⁩ and colleagues.

Debates on UPFs continue: ?the wobbles of a paradigm shift? Part of the differences in viewpoints is ‘splitters’ vs ‘lumpers’. Splitters (who predominate at the Congress) want to control for everything in reductionist studies. The lumpers see the whole system as the problem.

I have just sat through a 90 minute session on progress on the Decade of Action on Nutrition. In reality, it was a sad testimony to INaction. Not a single word about the role of commercial power to delay action. This needs to be front and centre!!

Excellent presentation by ⁦@drayeshaverrall⁩ about Labour’s plans ahead for ‘prevention first’ health. ⁦@HealthCoA⁩ is very keen continue these important discussions because the current policy direction for prevention is a disaster.

Talking about the negative impacts our current food systems have on health, equity and the environment can be quite depressing so I always try to finish with hopeful positive messages.

Great Lancet editorial on UPFs—except the claim that policies targeting all UPFs are unrealistic due to their vast number. Maybe true in UK/US, where UPFs dominate. But in most countries, real food still prevails—or UPFs are just starting to rise. Yet! https://t.co/EG1hMoGN1E
