UPDATE: Cambridge Elections’ unofficial tally now shows incumbent Decker up by 41 votes. The AP hasn’t yet called the race. The margin is just outside of the .5% threshold to allow a district-wide recount request. The campaigns have until Friday to request a ward-level recount.

"Labor Day" reminder that the majority of the world celebrates International Workers' Day on May 1, chosen by an international socialist congress in 1889 to commemorate the Haymarket affair, in which Chicago workers striking for an 8-hour day were violently repressed by police.

Happy Labor Day! Today is a day to remember the importance of striving towards a safe and supportive work environment. However, legislative staff are still barred from collective bargaining — and that work environment— in MA despite the legislature’s pro-labor reputation.

Labor Day is a time to celebrate the dedicated efforts of workers everywhere in creating a more just world. It’s also a moment to recommit to the struggles ahead. We have a long way to go to rebuild union density and to empower workers from the rank and file on up.

Enough is enough @BU_Tweets. Get serious at the table and negotiate dignified CBAs with your workers. Victory to the Res Life Union who launched an indefinite strike yesterday on move-in weekend and to BU Grad Workers Union on strike since March 25! ✊✊✊
A group of approximately 50 members of BU’s Res Life Union walked off their jobs on Saturday amidst students moving into campus. Striking students are protesting the lack of a new contract for their union. The next negotiation session is scheduled for 9/5.
