Excited to share my PhD work in @pgolshani 's lab designing and building low-cost miniature 2P microscopes with everyone! They cost < $10k USD (even at low production runs), are fitted with 2 on-board SiPM detectors, and are completely open-source! 1/5 https://t.co/LRof7MMKf7

Amazing work from a peer, friend, and one of the most rigorous (twitterless) scientists I know, fellow @pgolshani lab member, Conor Dorian. Non-spatial BTSP demonstrated in CA1 in vivo.🤯 Check out the bioRxiv!

Very proud of this new preprint by Conor Dorian and @JiannisTax showing behavioral time scale plasticity is not limited to the spatial domain but can also new create new fields representing sensory stimuli, time &outcome during working memory performance.

All the files needed to build the microscope and supporting electronics can be found on GitHub! In the near future, we are going to be putting together in depth tutorials, assembly guides, and alignment protocols! So stay tuned! 5/5

Our goal was to make an accessible, experimentally robust, 3D printed🔬 that could be shared easily and benefit the neuroscience community. We believe these systems will make addressing new and exciting scientific questions possible once they make it into the hands of others! 4/5

The 2P miniature microscopy field has really exploded, and I’m so glad to share what I’ve been working on with an amazing team. Wouldn't be possible without my advisor @pgolshani and key input from @DanielBAharoni @mattshtrahman @alcinojsilva @MeghaSehgal_ and Conor Dorian! 3/5

The microscope has ~ 980nm lateral 10.1um axial resolution, a FOV of 445um x 380um, and weighs approximately 4g. To test these systems, we imaged in CA1, RSC, and even in DG through intact hippocampus in freely behaving animals. Here's a FOV from DG during free behavior! 2/5

Many thanks to @pgolshani, @UCLANeurology, and UCLA Neurobiology for hosting me for a seminar! I was blown away by the images from the latest version of their mini 2-photon microscope... and just getting to hold one. We should all get our hands on them when they're ready! 🔬😊

Is this legit? If so, the world just completely changed and last Saturday would mark one of the most important days in human history. #superconductor #LK99

Extremely grateful to have worked with such a talented group of researchers to optically characterize + record these amazing new voltage indicators in vivo. They work great and continue to blow my mind every time we fire up the microscope.

Today in @naturemethods: our new positively tuned voltage indicator, ASAP4e, for extended electrical recordings in the brain. ASAP4e achieves greater responsivity (>200% per 100mV vs 50% for other fluorescent voltage sensors) and better photostability. https://t.co/wOq1fAtx5h

Voltage imaging is coming of age! This work wouldn’t have happened without @BlakeMadruga ‘s badass voltage imaging scope or without game-changer ASAP3 GEVI by @michaelzlin. Special thanks to Max Melin for help with recordings & of course to @pgolshani for his guidance throughout!

From modern electrical generators and motors, to the way light rotates in magnetic fields, Faraday made profound observations into the nature of electricity and magnetism. Einstein kept a photo of Faraday on his study wall, along with Schopenhauer and Maxwell, for inspiration.

Michael Faraday’s quote “Nothing is too wonderful to be true” is inscribed on one of UCLA’s first buildings. Faraday’s contributions to electromagnetism have proven incredibly transformative for all of civilization. His ideas, back then, are now what power the modern world.
