Even Yuji Hori himself said, that if it weren't for Shonen Jump & Akira Toriyama, that Dragon Quest wouldn't have been made.
Akira Toriyama practically is the godfather of JRPG's.
That man's influence went DEEP!
In an interview with Forbes, Hironobu Sakaguchi talked about how the success of the original Dragon Quest and his respect for Akira Toriyama inspired them to make the original Final Fantasy. Without Toriyama, there'd be no Final Fantasy.
