@BenedictNeuro highlights in @ConversationUK how SSPE affects 1 in 600 infants that contract measles before turning 1. The sad death of a child in LA serves as a reminder that measles is not a benign childhood illness. π https://t.co/oeMNnn11HH

After years of campaigning by PATIENT groups & @BrainIIGroup, the chickenpox vaccine is now going to be offered to all children on the NHS. No longer will this only be accessible to those wealthy enough to afford it. This will save lives from Brain Infection #Encephalitis
βUnusually, the UK is behind the curve on this.β A vaccine against chickenpox is going to be rolled out for young children on the NHS in England from January. Adam Finn, Professor Of Paediatrics at Bristol University, tells #R4Today that it is long overdue.

The MMR jab for babies will, for the first time, include an extra vaccine for Chickenpox. Medical experts say the change will help protect half a million children a year. @lornashaddick has this report.

We're launching a chickenpox vaccination programme which will protect around half a million children each year. From January 2026, eligible children will get an MMRV vaccine to protect against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox. Eligibility will be announced in due course.
