My PhD was less than ideal (switched labs 4-5yrs in when everyone else was graduating to start completely fresh in a new field) and I still couldn’t agree more w/ Jason. My experience doing this and working/hiring across academia and industry has only reinforced how much I value
Highly recommend getting a PhD - very rare to have the chance in your life to do truly open-ended, self-directed research surrounded by super smart, passionate people. You have the whole rest of your life to grind on applied work. Usual caveat of having a great professor to
