Superb news. The EU continues to step up. An initial €1.9 billion for humanitarian action will transform millions of lives, including through our plan to save 87 million lives in 2026. Momentum and energy. Thank you @hadjalahbib for your brilliant leadership.
The EU is the world’s leading humanitarian donor. We will keep it that way, committing €1.9 bil. of initial 🇪🇺 funding to humanitarian aid in 2026. But public funding alone will not meet the scale of the crisis. That's also why I'm in Davos: we need the private sector on board.

🆘 A staggering 55 million people are at risk of crisis levels of hunger, or worse, across West and Central Africa this year. A new analysis warns that reductions in humanitarian assistance are now pushing communities beyond their ability to cope. https://t.co/YrkGbLkzVF

Our partnership with the UK is vital for humanitarian action. Thank you @JennyChapman and @FCDOGovUK for excellent discussions on our plan to save 87M lives this year.
80 years since the first @UN meeting in London, the UK partnership with the UN remains vital. As humanitarian crises worsen - like Sudan where millions face brutal fighting and famine - I spoke to @UNReliefChief about how @UNOCHA is delivering lifesaving aid, with UK support.

The passing of Dr Jane Goodall @JaneGoodallInst caused me to re-read her wonderful book, 'Reason for Hope' (1999). Chapter 11 was poignant....I think that was it, here was someone who loved deeply and as a result was loved, and is missed, deeply.

Robert Redford epitomised an effortless grace and class; he brought beauty, poignancy and scale to the silver screen. Nowhere was this gift more evident than in the timeless 'Out of Africa' (1985). Such a loss. Such a wonderful legacy. RIP.

People facing starvation in Sudan are forced to eat rats and leave from trees to survive. We visited one camp in the Nuba Mountains which is only receiving limited food aid, meaning people are having to eat what they can find.
