I think good minimalist prose is infinitely more difficult to write
The trouble with complex prose is just that it is complex: don't try this at home. Now that every other person on the planet is a writer, it makes perfect sense that minimalism dominates. For most, there is no aesthetic choice involved; they write the sentences they can.
