Yet another example of how inclusionary zoning blocks more housing than it’s worth. More generally, it’s lesson that sticking it to business isn’t the way to achieve affordability.

Mayor Wu ran on housing. But in 2024, Boston approved just 3,575 units — down from 7,389 in 2023, and well below the ~7,000/year average under Walsh. What changed? @MayorWu forced 20% of units to be priced below market and projects became financially unworkable.

The GOP tax package passed 215-214-1 after the deaths of three Democrats in last few months. Rs would have had to flip at least one vote if their seats were still filled and they voted no. (Two Rs did not vote but Speaker says they would have voted aye. He said one fell asleep).

For those following PTET workaround language closely, the House manager’s amendment has some clarifying language. Clearer now that the new limits on SALT cap workarounds apply to service businesses but not to other pass-throughs (manufacturers for example).

Rand Paul is the only GOP co-sponsor of the latest Senate resolution seeking to overturn Trump's global tariffs: “Tariffs are taxes, and the power to tax belongs to Congress—not the president. Our Founders were clear: tax policy should never rest in the hands of one person."

Distilling last week in economics; "Which system is gonna be hurt the most when you jab a fork into a light socket? I don't really know," said Michael Madowitz, principal economist at the Roosevelt Institute. "That's why we don't force forks into light sockets, traditionally."

At least he's being honest that Vermont politics is about deciding who the cool kids are and aren't and deciding everything from there. "It's our job to make sure the right people are winning." And kudos to @AustinDavisVT for calm response to blatant favoritism.

If Ezra Klein were a Senator, he would likely be the 4th or 5th most progressive Senator out of 100. If he's not progressive enough for you, you are way out of step with mainstream American politics.

For every $1 spent by the Parks, they produce $15 in economic activity. It is less than 0.067% of all federal spending. Parks have a huge economic multiplier. They create platforms for substantial private sector activity (tourism, recreation businesses, etc.) while preserving
