And that brings us to the idea of having maintenance loans at all. It’s not understood enough how the Osborne replacement of maintenance grants with loans has compounded already profound inequalities between students. Kids from poorer backgrounds often now graduate with more debt

Surely the argument for HS2 is even weaker, now that working from home is becoming the norm, and meetings are massively reduced?
On Thursday the 300-year-old Hunningham Oak near Leamington was felled for HS2.
It’s not even on the main rail-route—it was chainsawed for a service road.
This oak began its life around the time Daniel Defoe published Journal of a Plague Year.
