We just wrapped up a wonderful meeting with the President of Mexico
@lopezobrador_
at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in D.C. Our cultures and countries may differ, but our commitment to bettering the world couldn't be more similar.
Four years ago, Yolanda Renee took the stage to say
#EnoughisEnough
on gun violence. This weekend, she and her peers are rallying again. Our children and our communities can no longer live in fear of the next mass shooting. We won't let up until action is made.
@AMarch4OurLives
I AM a Mother. Tyre Nichols cried out for his mom. George Floyd called out for mama. Who can hear their cries without your soul breaking? We must answer the calls for their mothers. These cries are for all our children.
Our daughter Yolanda, is Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King's only grandchild. I know that when he talked about his dream, he was also dreaming of her.
The power of black women can no longer be underestimated. We delivered for Congress and now Congress must deliver voting rights for us.
On this MLK Day of service let’s make sure our democracy is secured once and for all.
#DeliverForVotingRights
We often talk about the six principles of nonviolence Dr. King lived by and how we can practice them in everyday life.
@mallorymcmorrow
just showed us exactly what it means to walk in Martin Luther King’s footsteps and how to choose love in the face of hate.
Senator Lana Theis accused me by name of grooming and sexualizing children in an attempt to marginalize me for standing up against her marginalizing the LGBTQ community...in a fundraising email, for herself.
Hate wins when people like me stand by and let it happen. I won't.
MLK's poignant "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech, advocating for striking sanitation workers was his last speech before his assassination. It offers timeless wisdom on enduring life's struggles: "only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars."
Watch and be inspired.🎥
We won’t celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day without demanding legislation to protect the
#MLKLegacy
.
Congress has the power to eliminate the filibuster and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act TODAY.
For the mother who will wait 10 hours to vote in Atlanta with her children by her side and her bag full of water and snacks because it’s illegal to pass out food and water to voters — we will keep fighting.
A big shoutout to each and every marcher who made
#MOW60
an unforgettable day of solidarity. As the echoes of our footsteps fade, the impact of our march remains strong. Thank you for being a part of this historic movement.
Martin Luther King Jr. spent his last birthday serving others. You cannot honor
#MLKDay
and stand in opposition to voting rights legislation.
On his heavenly birthday today, we are serving his vision by turning out in AZ & on Congress to
#deliverforvotingrights
.
It is deeply disappointing that a handful of Senators didn’t have the courage to do what is right, and now Black and Brown Americans will pay the price. This is a setback on the long road to justice but the road continues on.
Even though we anticipated this outcome, this is a gut punch to women across America.
Decades of women’s rights have taken a dangerous turn for the worse.

Happy Birthday, My Love. I am so grateful that God brought us together. You are a wonderful husband, father and advocate and over the years, we’ve been blessed to do so much more than I could have ever imagined. Celebrating you today and every day! ♥️
@Officialmlk3
Today is the 156th day of 2022 and we’ve experienced over 200 mass shootings this year alone.
America is in the midst of a gun violence epidemic and we cannot wait any longer to address it.
BREAKING: Three people are dead and 14 hurt after a shooting near a Tennessee nightclub.
Police said most were shot, but one of those killed and two of the injured were hit by vehicles while trying to flee. They said there were multiple shooters.
This time is different. Since 2018, this movement has helped pass over 150 gun safety laws. Do not stop the pressure on Congress, this is just the beginning. Small wins are a reminder of the power the people hold to create the Beloved Community
#endgunviolencenow
@AMarch4OurLives
Grieving does not end when the news cycle moves on. Today we remember the lives lost during the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016. Hate crimes are a real issue in this nation that we must address with principles of love and nonviolence.
On this day in 2016, America lost 49 people to hatred and homophobia in the Pulse Nightclub shooting. It is now 2022 and we are still fighting for gun reform that could prevent heinous acts like this.
Enough is Enough.
I'm confident that the next generation will be the ones to dismantle systemic racism and gun violence. I'm proud of my daughter, Yolanda Renee, consistently speaking out to rally her generation to take action for their future.
Join my family in Phoenix, AZ on January 15th, Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, to demand Congress end the filibuster + pass voting rights legislation.
This
#MLKDay
, we will not accept empty promises in pursuit of Dr. King’s dream.
#BREAKING

. We said no celebration without legislation. Now, our leaders are taking action.
Senate Democrats: be on the right side of history — eliminate the filibuster and pass voting rights legislation.
I am wishing my husband,
@OfficialMLK3
, a very Happy Birthday. A man who walks humbly with God each day. Yolanda Renee and I are blessed to share this enduring legacy of love with you. Your love lights my soul. Eternally Yours xoxo
🕊️ Remembering Coretta Scott King on the anniversary of her passing. A trained vocalist, activist, devoted wife, and mother, her legacy of love, justice, and equality lives on.
Two years ago Louisville police fatally shot
#BreonnaTaylor
in her home. Honoring Breonna Taylor’s life means changing the corrupt justice system that has yet to be held accountable. We will continue to
#SayHerName
until justice is served.
Two years ago today,
#BreonnaTaylor
was shot and killed by Louisville, KY police officers. She deserves her justice, but elected officials refuse to give it to her.
We must ban no-knock warrants and hold her murderers accountable.
This past weekend’s march was a success, but let’s remember, demonstrations alone are not enough. After the historic original March on Washington, the convenors took their voices to the White House.
60 years later, we did the same.

in Memphis, TN—55 years after MLK's assassination—to advocate for a fair and balanced Supreme Court that upholds our basic human rights.
Some say that Yolanda Renee's dreams for a gun-free world are too lofty. I say, that her dream is one that is essential to the safety of all children around this nation.
It is time for our elected officials to look in the mirror and reckon with their own inaction.
Black history is not just a month, it’s an integral part of our shared human history.
It’s important to recognize the systemic erasure of Black history that exists today and actively work to preserve and uplift the fullness of Black history.
Insanity is the doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. After 14 mass shootings Memorial Day weekend, we’re met with another shooting in Tulsa, OK.
The gunman was able to buy an assault weapon that same day.
Change cannot wait.
#EndGunViolence
Another shooting, this time in Tusla, shattering more families. We are losing too many of our brothers and sisters to violence, and it is past time for us to do something.
Happy Heavenly Birthday Coretta Scott King! Coretta's story began with music. A talented soprano and classical singer, she studied voice and music education at
@necmusic
where she met and fell in love with MLK Jr.
As parents we are engulfed in end of the year activities. Plays, proms, dances, banquet we should not be shielding our children from bullets. No parent should have to send their kid to school and wonder if they’ll make it home alive.
I wasn’t born an activist. I want my daughter to grow up knowing that choosing to dedicate your life to this work is an inner calling that is available to anyone.

This week is
#NationalNursesWeek
! I am the proud daughter of a nurse. I remember the days helping my mother prepare for work by helping iron her uniform. Today and everyday we honor and celebrate nurses across the country and recognize their public health efforts.
Today I am thinking of the strength and courage of Emmett Till’s mother showing the world the injustice inflicted on her son.
I’m grateful the Senate finally passed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act and making this hateful act a federal crime.
JUST IN: After years of trying, a federal anti-lynching bill named after Emmett Till — and championed by Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., — is headed to President Joe Biden’s desk to sign after the Senate unanimously on Monday passed the measure.
Part of Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy is working to eradicate economic inequality. His last speech was in support of striking sanitation workers. Let's never forget that on this journey of pursuing justice, that includes fair wages and benefits so all people can prosper.
Unions promote economic equality and build worker power, helping workers to win increases in pay, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
But that’s not all unions do. Unions also have powerful effects on workers’ lives outside of work.
Poverty kills more than crime, guns, and opioids. We can no longer be indifferent to the suffering of others. MLK talked about eradicating the triple evils of racism, poverty and violence by embracing peace, justice, and equity; to pursue a revolution that is based on love.
My family and I are blessed to witness the Embrace Memorial that honors the birthplace of their love story and the beginning of their legacy in the movement.
Every year, we acknowledge
#MLKDay
as a "day on" and not a "day off." The best way to honor
#MLK
is to live out the principles that he spent his life sharing. Let’s reflect on what we can do this next year to bring us closer to the Beloved Community.
#OnThisDay
in 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, TN. While a family lost a husband and a father, the nation lost a revolutionary leader who taught us the importance of nonviolence and the value of loving each member of the Beloved Community.
We will not get tired of fighting to secure our voting rights because we know that the tone of democracy rings louder than the tone of division.
We will not give up.
We will not give in.
We will not give out.
Our generation will

For every child that did not come home. For every blow that strikes fear into the heart of our children. I AM a mother. I AM a Black Mother. And our children matter.
I often wonder where women draw their strength in a world run by men. Upon becoming a mother to Yolanda Renee, I understood. They wanted to create a better world for every generation to come. On
#InternationalWomensDay
I honor women the women working to build a Beloved Community.
When I think about the strength of Black mothers & the racism they endure, I think of Mamie Till.

I'm so proud of Yolanda Reneè's commitment to activism. It's a blessing to witness her grow in her grandparents' legacy & carve her own path towards becoming a lawyer. Check out her conversation with
@univision
about her dreams and life of activism:
I had the honor of working for Anne Braden for nearly a decade at the Center for Democratic Renewal (National Anti-Klan Network). I’ve been thinking about her quite a bit in the past few days.
It's great
@POTUS
and

are visiting Atlanta to talk about voting rights, but this issue cannot be solved by speeches alone. Congress must take action to secure our right to vote by passing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
#DeliverforVotingRights
Our daughter’s school was on lockdown yesterday. This can touch any of us at anytime. As Americans what affects any of us directly affects all of us indirectly. We’ve had enough of the gun violence.
We are entering a new phase of the civil rights movement that requires courage and faith in a better future. No matter the circumstances, we must remain awake during this great revolution. The soul of our nation and world relies on our perserverance and pursuit of justice.
Love this thread on the history of

Thank you for sharing the real history of our ancestors.
The late Coretta Scott King. She was an author, activist, civil rights leader and the wife of Martin Luther King Jr.
She wasn’t just the wife of an American hero, she was an icon in her own right.

BREAKING: Supreme Court strikes down Republican-drawn congressional districts in Alabama that civil rights activists say discriminated against Black voters.
The congressional district map, which heavily favors Republicans, will now be redrawn.
When you see someone suffering for good, there's something inside of you that's released. It creates a connection with their humanity. Particularly during the Civil Rights Movement, that is what made people stand up and find the good within themselves and stand up for justice.

we witnessed a dark day for our democracy. Subsequently, legislatures introduced more than 400 voter suppression bills in 49 states. This year, our mandate is to
#DeliverForVotingRights
and protect our sacred right to vote.
We vote for a future that makes the tones of democracy ring louder than division. We vote for a future of freedom and justice for all. And no matter what it looks like, no matter how tired we may be, we will not give up. We will not give out. We will not give in.
For years, there's been a concerted effort to chip away at our voting rights and make it harder for the majority to be heard.
Democracy is something we have to fight to protect everyday and it only takes a few good people to spark a movement for change.
I find hope within my daughter and her friends, and how they stand in their beliefs, ready to do their part in feeding the flames of peace, justice and equity which each generation has to do. Where do you find your hope?
Today primary elections take place in several states, including Georgia. State level elections are just as crucial to protecting democracy as federal elections. Make sure to educate yourself on the candidates and cast a vote so your voice can be heard.
