This is a landmark approval based on years of incredible basic science. Congrats to all involved and particularly Stuart Orkin who, over decades, drove the fundamental research in globin regulation that got us to this point!.
Today we approved two milestone treatments - the first cell-based gene therapies to treat sickle cell disease in patients 12 years and older.
