Maybe it’s because I’m a Californian and by and large we’re just different but I’m leery as hell about Catholic dudes who are never seen not smoking cigars, drinking whisky etc. Won’t go so far as to say they’re LARP an amalgam of Catholic masculinity but it does give me pause.

A not-insignificant number of Catholics still cling to the same clericalism that enabled and deepened the abuse crisis. Their blind loyalty didn’t just excuse corruption — it helped sustain it. They stand only marginally above the abusers they defend.
