Sadly, this is all too common. “For every 100 positive tests, usually conducted in the first trimester, 85 to 95 women receive a devastating diagnosis for their baby and are counseled on abortion—when their babies are actually perfectly healthy.” Something has to change.
This piece is absolutely infuriating, damning, and in a just world would lead to much more education and caution about relying on pre-natal testing for decisions about life and death

Meanwhile, in PG County, MD, I am not free to start a school for thirty interested families in my neighborhood without building from the ground up on five acres of land (in order to meet the onerous zoning and building codes). Let that sink in.
@karenvaites @DanaGoldstein You would think it’s shocking that schools would rather pay $900+ per pupil in “finder’s fees” than just listen to parents and improve academic outcomes - but nope, that’s par for the course with US public ed administrators.

I want my money back for four kids birthed in hospitals that kept my placentas 👀.
If a single placenta can be worth tens of thousands of dollars, why are women still paying thousands for delivery? Shouldn’t this at least offset the costs of birth? Instead, the placenta’s value is extracted and monetized by hospitals and biotech companies, while the mother.
