Choosing not to have children is fundamentally eschatological decision, a belief in the superiority of the world to come in which there is no marrying or begetting. Marriage & kids are part of the created order; the childless must bear witness to the world to come.

Paid sabbaticals are great. "paid sabbaticals in lieu of paid maternity leave" is civilizational suicide. Children are not a lifestyle choice and treating them as such is detrimental to the welfare of us all.

between stuff like this and cases like Steve Bannon facing zero consequences for defrauding people, legacy media really could do more is just pointing out who is getting rich off of RW gullibility. Would probably do more good than screeching about fascism.
I really think people underestimate the frequency at which this happens. There are a ton of incentives to ‘play’ in the U.S. cultural market, and the internet flattens the barrier to entry bigly.

This sounds too much like the conclusion to a gazillion essays about Christian discipleship I've read (and written!). People genuinely want their small acts of kindness to matter to the big-picture beliefs that animate them; it's hard to do that without a religion!.

I suspect there's a normal distribution for both conscientiousness and agency. If you've got an ideology, there's an incredible amount of competition for people at the high end of the spectrum for both simultaneously.

A lot of activism (and online discourse in general, really) is about 95th percentile high-conscientiousness/high-agency people assuming that (a) most of the population is as HCHA as they are & (b) all those HCHA people will act as they do given the right information.
