If universities are going to offer 3-year degrees (as they should) better to lop off the general education classes than the upper-level cutting-edge knowledge classes or what is the point?.

As I used to tell my students, Moby-Dick is about a whale. The Odyssey is about Odysseus. Pride and Prejudice is about pride and prejudice. When you start out looking for meaning you don't hear the literary work telling you what it's about.

Underlying the trend nationally is a Dept. of Education & Dept. of Labor "workforce alignment" algorithm (the CIP-SOP crosswalk) that does not link philosophy to a specific career & so is worthless. Yet philosophy majors can do ANY job. @DailyNousEditor .

I'm bullish on the future of AI & education. But it's tiring when people lean on LLMs to write for them. It's frustrating to *read* AI-generated text. My aphantasia has meant I lean on words to mean things specifically. Turns out this is helpful for identifying AI writing.

AI can write a Great Book. There’s no reason why a human has to be behind a book for it to be “great.” Philosophers are not safe. To be clear, something is lost when there’s no soul behind the words. We read Marcus Aurelius, Nietzsche, Machiavelli and we feel the weight of a
