As a central concept, we developed resonators that are geometrically asymmetric, but appear "symmetric" (in the language of symmetry-protected BICs) for light. We can break this photonic symmetry by selective ultrafast optical pumping, giving us full control over the resonances.

Proud to share that our new paper is now out in @Nature 🥳 We introduce a new mechanism for the all-optical and ultrafast control of resonances in BIC metasurfaces through temporal symmetry breaking. It's an ultrafast light switch on the nanoscale!

This is the culmination of our efforts on metasurfaces composed of only a single vdW material, and we hope it will become a versatile platform for investigating many others. Amazing team effort spearheaded by @luca_sor and great collaboration with the Hartschuh and Maier groups.

New paper out in @NaturePhotonics 📰🥳 We demonstrate phonon polariton bound states in the continuum metasurfaces in silicon carbide membranes. These qBICs are extremely subwavelength (10^5 smaller than free space) and show great robustness against incident-angle variations.
