5) Labour’s Parklets scheme is divorced from common sense, non-compliant with standard local authority guidance and disregards national safety standards on visibility and safety. Works being pushed through have been developed without adequate consultation with local residents!

4) Hackney, Waltham Forest, Lambeth and Merton, have all run parklet programmes, but they are almost all located on residential streets or quieter high streets. NOT on major A‑road corridors.

3) Chiswick High Road (A315), Holloway Road (A1), Streatham High Road (A23) are also A roads as well as High Streets, and NONE of them have parklets or disruptive structures on them. Councils have a legal duty (under the Traffic Management Act 2004) to keep traffic flowing.

2) Labour are trying to reimagine a strategic A road as a pedestrianised piazza. Many features they want to introduce are simply not compatible with the type of traffic on A routes. This will cause chaos, congestion, air pollution; and erode the safety of cyclists and children.
