Interesting: Shell won its court case against the imposition of an order to reduce its emissions by 45% in part because: The court agreed that if western firms pivot away from gas too quickly, net impact would be *bad* for the planet if their customers fill that gap with coal.

THIS IS HUGE. Paris City Hall has announced that starting on Monday, Paris will limit (not ban) car traffic in the city centre, as cities like Ghent have done. They’re creating a limited traffic zone (ZTL) about 2 sq miles in size, to clean the air & create more space for people.

Quite a few asking how long it'd take the solar panels to generate same electricity as gas in 50 LNG tankers, as if it's some kind of gotcha… 🌞Buy & install a solar panel, it generates for 25+years 🔥Buy & then burn gas – it's literally gone up in smoke
Incredible stat: A single container ship of solar panels can provide as much electricity as more than 50 large LNG tankers of gas – or 100 large coal ships There's many more insights in IEA Energy Technology Perspectives 2024 – here's a selection 🧵 1/7

The shift from fossil fuel imports to clean technology imports can improve the resilience of energy supply A large container ship of solar panels can provide the means to produce as much electricity as the gas from over 50 large LNG tankers or the coal from over 100 large ships

Without climate change, #HurricaneMilton would have made landfall as a Category 2 instead of a Category 3 storm. Furthermore, #Milton's rainfall & wind were both more likely & intense due to climate change, according to our latest analysis.🧵 📰 https://t.co/0IWO54sYxv

Out of the frying pan, into the fire: Switzerland's implementation plan for the @KlimaSeniorin judgment is public. Submitted perfectly on time, but that's really the only thing that I want to commend about it.

“Emissions reductions haven’t happened as planned. If you still want to get to 1.5°C, you need overshoot.” The overconfidence with overshoot is that people think it is possible to get to 1.5°C without overshoot? Pick your variable, this is CH4... https://t.co/vHvsCXxylp 1/

Today is the day the UK becomes the first G7 country to completely phase out coal power Since opening "Jumbo", the world's first coal power plant in 1882, the UK's coal plants have burned through a whopping 4.6bn tonnes of coal, emitting 10.4GtCO2 – which is more than most

Unglaubliche Regenmengen! #helene #hurricanehelene #Klimakrise #helene2024
EXTREME and some have called generational flood in the mountains of North and South Carolina. Georgia got hit bad too from flooding today. 40"+ of rain fell in spots (second image) with this highly unusual Fujiwara-induced track NW of a hurricane remnant. That unusual track

Deadly rainfall in Central Europe twice as likely due to our continued burning of fossil fuels - @WWAttribution study. Early warning meant deaths were avoided, but plans to strengthen flood defences have been implemented way too slowly.
