I went to Jharkhand to see how APAAR—the new digital ID for students—works. It took me two weeks (and many phone calls) to make sense of it. Teachers are living through this confusion, every day, under pressure, with bad internet & no support. My story:
boomlive.in
APAAR was designed to include every student in India's digital education system. Instead, it's creating a new challenge that threatens to keep many out of schools.

In May 40 Rohingya refugees were detained in Delhi, flown to the Andaman Islands, put on a boat and forced into the sea off the coast of Myanmar, a country they had fled fearing their lives. We’ve spent the last few months piecing together what happened.

At @DecodeInternet, we consistently collaborate with reporters closest to the story. That's been my biggest achievement in building this vertical for BOOM. But we are not anywhere close to a big publisher. So please read and share. That helps, plenty.

This ad from the BJP is…quite absurd • It features Pepe the Frog - a cartoon used by the extreme right in the USA • There are flash cuts of Mughals and BJP leaders with no coherence • The quality is worse than the rest of BJP official output that tends to be quite slick

Can't believe Dada is no longer with us. Just spoke to him, last week, and had plans to meet soon. He was my first editor at a job almost a decade ago. One of the very few who continued to report from the ground. Even if you didn't agree with him, he encouraged you to read.
Sad news: senior journalist Shantanu Guha Ray passed away this morning. An investigative journalist and author with a wide range of interests, he wrote books on stock market scams and cricket corruption. Booming voice and always ready for a fiery debate but with a smile! RIP 🙏
