In Germany all those extreme daily price peaks in energy are usually correlated with INSANE CO2 emissions per kWh.
Here you can see 775gCO2/kWh on a quiet windless morning in the summer.
I have never seen such high values when German nuclear fleet still operated.
Today is another good day to explain why we need dynamic retail tariffs:
German spot prices will jump to nearly 200 €/MWh at 7 a.m. and then will briefly reach nearly 300 €/MWh at 7 p.m. In between, they fall back below 90 €/MWh.

Shutting down perfectly fine reactors is not the answer to the energy crisis that EU is facing today.
Yet Belgium is going to do just that. And will build more natural gas plants becasue of it.
This has been TVdS platform since she became a minister of energy in Belgium.
Nuclear is currently not an answer to the energy crisis that 🇪🇺 is facing today. In any case we need to boost the acceleration of renewable energy like wind and sun.
At the same time, we don’t exclude any options if they can participate to a carbon neutral energy sector by 2050.
This is extraordinary declaration, unthinkable before the war.
"Germany would “acknowledge and not oppose” the contribution of nuclear energy to the EU’s decarbonisation objectives.
He went on to explain that Germany would import French hydrogen made out of nuclear energy."
WOW: Polish Left (coalition of 3 parties) wants to purchase the power from working nuclear power plants in Germany.
They want to lease them and purchase their power in bulk to prevent their shutdown, so that more Polish coal can be replaced by low carbon alternatives.

NuScale complains about steel prices, but it makes no sense as the price of steel is dropping also steel is NOT the main cost driver in such projects.
I think we are witnessing what has been expected: small reactors are not cheap coz they are small.

(9/n) For Germany to be really dependent on Russia, and therefore obedient there should be no alternative ways for Germany to supply gas. In Europe this means LNG shipping from Qatar and USA.
Look at this map, why are there no LNG ports in Germany? Strange, no?
(11/n) Until 2011 a new gas pipeline had a lot of enemies among German environmentalists, but after Gazprom donation the three CEOs changed their opinion.
Maybe they realized that gas has no substitute in Energiewende? Or maybe they just wanted to retire to a nice cozy job.
(8/n)Nord Stream 1 was built but it was not enough to kill Ukraine supply, so a second one was conceived. Germany wanted to become a gas hub for Europe, while promising security to Ukraine.
For Putin's plan to work, one more thing needed to be blocked: German LNG ports.
Germany is missing €60 bln in order to replace coal with natural gas.
Somehow the market alone is not enough to finance this transition to a transition fuel.
Turns out that if you operate your new gas plant less and less until 2035 it really makes no sense financially.

3. 🇫🇷 want to fund refurbishing of nuclear with State
4. 🇩🇪 says it is not fair!

This video is a historical moment.
Voter turnover was unexpectedly high and ordinary people one after another have told Kaczyński he needs to go back and wait for his own turn to vote.
No special treatment anymore, something he is certainly not used too anymore.
The whole thing was scandalous enough so BUND published a disclaimer that they would never accept money from Gazprom or nuclear (sic!).
But in principle they agreed that Gazprom is:
➡️the lesser evil
➡️right that LNG shipping is BAD
➡️Ukraine can be ignored for the right $$$
After killing low carbon nuclear power German economy really needs cheap fossil natural gas in order to quit coal and balance renewables.
The government now argues on how to subsidize the industry as Habeck put it " [we need to] borrow money or have no more industry anymore".
“Reactors are more cost-effective than renewables in terms of natural resources and land use”. That’s wildly untrue. The reactors at Plant Vogtle are enormous- the extreme use of carbon emitting concrete, the huge amount of land use & clearing, mining for uranium. I mean, dude!
(7/n) Gerhard thought that he can "civilise" Putin's Russia by doing business. RU elites had other values and goals, but played the game nonetheless.

It is toxic. And so is mercury spewed into the atmosphere in tons by German coal powerplants that were kept alive in order to kill nuclear.
Mercury bioaccumulates in food chain, everyone is poisoned by it, while civilian nuclear waste is nicely separated from the environment.

(4/n) Germany transition started with a huge boost for renewables (good) and similar big push to build a fleet of "ultra modern" and "high tech" coal power plants (bad).
Noticed this "bump"? These are "Schröder's coal babies" replacing old coal. Everyone was happy.
Germany is closing 4 GWs of low carbon nuclear in 8 months.
Also Germany:
"The Münster court said its ruling in favor of lignite mining was compatible with the constitutional requirement to protect the climate."
(5/n) By then everyone more or less agreed that coal had no long term future though. To balance intermittent wind&solar without nuclear, flexible natural gas was marketed as a "transition fuel", "big friend of renewables".
But where could Germany get lots and lots of cheap gas?
