New blog - "All I want for Christmas is a functional COVID inquiry, part 1". I was a scientist in 10 Downing Street during COVID, and what I see coming from this inquiry mirrors the same dysfunction I saw during that response. We must do better.

She lied so that she could produce "better than expected" numbers and say rates were not going up as a budget "rabbit."

BREAKING The OBR says it informed Rachel Reeves as far back as ***September 17*** that the downgrade in productivity forecasts was offset by 'increases in real wages and inflation'. The deficit was in fact just £2.5billion By October 31 that deficit had turned into net positive

If Rachel Reeves knowingly and publicly misrepresented the state of the national finances in the run up to the Budget, surely that represents very serious market manipulation.

You’d think from the BBC’s coverage of itself that this was purely a row about a single doctored Trump speech. The Corporation’s line is, more or less, “Yes, we made one error, but we are an outstanding impartial news service”. In fact, the Prescott Report highlights structural

This is an utter capitulation. Labour's welfare bill is now a TOTAL waste of time. It effectively saves £0, helps no one into work, and does NOT control spending. It’s pointless. They should bin it, do their homework, and come back with something serious. Starmer cannot govern.

The government has effectively abandoned its flagship welfare reform - the overhaul of PIP disability benefits - entirely After so much political pain, all the arguments that this was a moral and economic necessity, it's gone. Just like that The only conclusion you can reach is

At last. Congratulations to all the campaigners who have fought so hard for so long. The company should now be prosecuted for its multiple breaches. We also need an inquiry as to why the lamentable EA took so long to reach this conclusion, which was obvious years ago.

💙 THANK YOU NEWCASTLE! 💙 It’s been such an honour to be your MP for the last four and a half years. As the montage shows, we’ve been through some tough times - not least Covid. But we’ve come through it stronger and Newcastle’s best days lie ahead.

We are cracking on with delivering the doubling of medical school places. 205 additional places already confirmed for this September. And today we allocate 350 places for 2025, awarded to medical schools up and down the country, helping to level up access to medical degrees.

This article says Labour would allow immigrants to claim UK asylum *before* reaching the UK. So illegal immigrants who arrive in safe countries (eg France) could claim UK asylum without limitation. This would unleash an enormous increase in claims (cont) https://t.co/JXcClBsp9j
