A ban on social media for children is an affront to parental authority. Kids need parents willing to enforce boundaries, not more state intervention. We must say no to the nanny state. Or it will consume every aspect of our lives, says Ella Whelan https://t.co/HJGEYHFeHh

Was such a pleasure interviewing Jennifer Melle again. The way she was treated by her managers, by the NHS Trust, and by her union was utterly disgraceful. And now she is bravely continuing the fight to hold them to account so that hopefully no one else suffers the same treatment
'If it is against my faith I will stand by my values!' @JoshxHowie speaks with NHS nurse Jennifer Melle, who was reinstated after previously being suspended from her job for misgendering a trans patient.

No, we don't need more protected characteristics. We don't need to further expand the Equality Act. We need to, instead, scale back the Equality Act, stop viewing everything through the lens of identity politics, and focus on equality under the law. https://t.co/gZydRmVX9G

Shocking news that the brilliant historian David Abulafia has died. I got to know him when I was @JewishChron editor and was lucky enough to publish him. I saw him last year and he was as inspiring as ever. May his memory be a blessing

I think it's appropriate too. I always loved listening to his voice and and his appreciation for India always struck lacking the patronising overtones of other more 'Sahib' like figures! RIP. Hard to see who, in Britain, could match his standards.
I spoke on a panel with Mark in India many years ago. He was charm itself - even though we were on opposite sides of the debate. A truly wonderful and informed broadcaster. The phrase "end of an era" is over-used, but is absolutely appropriate here. This is a suitably glowing

The fact that we think 14 year olds should decide which teacher gets hired shows how little respect we have for the profession. 😳 Absurd. Imagine a 14 year old advising a heart surgeon how to cut open his chest.
@Mouhssin_Ismail As part of the hiring process in a South-East London School, I was "interviewed" by the student council. Whilst I was "answering" their question two Yr8/9s (not sure) were trying to kick each other under the table. Needless to say, I kindly withdrew my application. Madness.

This is just insane. 1) Men/boys who are misogynistic/sexist KNOW WELL what they're doing this isn't an education issue. 2) If a teacher needs training to spot misogyny they're useless and 3) if you want a REAL crisis with boys, make them sit through a class that tells them that

Ouch. The rapier of basic logic strikes.
"If this is not suitable to talk about with a group of adults, how can it possibly be suitable to talk about in schools?" Man challenging Swinney on Scottish education system as Chair tries to shut him down. He will not be stopped. https://t.co/e1bvqMBU1p

Against the social-media ban for under 16s Claire Fox (@Fox_Claire) spoke in the House of Lords about the rush to clamp down, the very mixed evidence that a ban would protect children and the impacts of a ban on adults' civil liberties. Watch the video and read the speech 👇

Please make it make sense, is this malice, or mere stupidity?
From April 1, listed places of worship will have to bear the full cost of VAT on repairs. This brings to an end a system that has operated successfully for 20+ years. Local people will have to raise money not just to repair roofs and towers but to pay a 20% tax to the Government.

Like @Jacob_Rees_Mogg, lots of people ask me how the Church of England can legally spend £100 million on slavery reparations when that money was given for parish churches. The answer is: they can't. It's not just historically illiterate and morally wrong; it’s illegal.

A bit of a lone voice against cross-party fervour of Lords baying to ban social media for the under 16s. It really won't keep kids safe and could create a range of unintended consequences. But also it makes ADULT age-gating ID checks compulsory, for all user to user services.
