BIG NEWS! I’m launching a new weekend essay series @thenation. The Weekend Read will take the form of memoir, first-person narratives, and dispatches with a political through line. These pieces will come out every Saturday on our website and on The Nation’s Substack.

Everyone is always so surprised by everything…Mark Grief said it more clearly than I could here but our society basically glorifies women who look like children

loved reading & writing about Cora Lewis’s Information Age from @JoylandPub — ty CRB!
"In its meditation on daily life in the middle of the last decade, Information Age delineates the qualities and quirks of this time period, and reflects their shifts." Rachel Stone on Cora Lewis's "Information Age" @JoylandPub

"Sentimental Value" is a kind of film we don’t see so often nowadays—honest art about adults and their feelings. https://t.co/skRVnqcSQy

In Sentimental Value, the Norwegian filmmaker’s most ambitious work yet, he examines the porous boundary between art and life.

!!! A civil rights icon?? For engaging in civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance in response to a moral crime and then being persecuted for it by the state??!! Are you kidding me?????
I went to Mahmoud Khalil’s “welcome home” celebration near Columbia. The important thing to note is that among leftists, he is not just revered: He is considered a civil rights icon.

The Nation started a weekend essay series, and this one about New York City—through the eyes Wood Allen, Andrew Cuomo, and the piece's author, the great novelist Stephanie Wambugu—is superb.

The director’s vision of New York City once seemed aspirational, but his endorsement of Andrew Cuomo suggests he may not understand the city beyond its fiction.

This piece is nearly a complete remake of @Jess_McAllen’s in @thenation we worked on months ago. Read her feature here:

Internal Family Systems has been wholeheartedly embraced by celebrities and desperate patients alike. But is it a science—or a scam?
Internal Family Systems is a treatment offered by tens of thousands of therapists, endorsed by Gwyneth Paltrow and Elizabeth Gilbert, and widely embraced on social media. Some patients say it’s destroyed their lives.
