As a former Prime Minister, she is entitled to a pension as is all former Prime Ministers. Whether or not she's paid to speak, she is a private citizen and is not currently holding public office. There are many private citizens who are paid to speak at events, never held office.

I had the honour today to lay a wreath for Canada at the Commonwealth Military Cemetery in Florence. Only 50 of the many Canadians buried in Italy rest here but I was moved to see many from my Dad’s regiment-the Seaforths- and other Western regiments esp from Edmonton & Calgary.

Why do people think "I object to teenagers lecturing adults" means I don't believe in climate science? I think a teenager would be right to tell me to watch my weight and eat healthy, but still not a good practice to encourage them to lecture adults. Why is this hard?
