You should be able to cast a vote by numbering at least 5 squares above or below the line in the Victorian upper house. Voters to decide their preferences!

The undemocratic group voting system in Victoria helped One Nation gain a foothold in our Parliament. Today, Pauline Hanson is actually *in* the building talking about making our state more right-wing. There should be no place in Victoria for Hanson's One Nation. Scrap GVT now.

Everyone benefits from preferences. Facts are: 1. The number of Greens Upper House seats was (this time) proportional to their vote share. 2. The Greens did not win any region where they were trailing on quotas.

Greens MP @TimRRead gives notice of a motion condemning group voting tickets. Deputy Premier @JacintaAllanMP shoots back that the party benefitted from preferences in the last election. #springst

I've written to the Premier asking that an independent panel be established to review the undemocratic group voting system as a matter of urgency. With some MPs elected to the 60th Victorian Parliament on a fraction of the vote, Labor must get on with the reform process now.

At this year's Senate election, 92.7% of Victorians marked their ballot papers with '1' followed by preferences for other parties above the line. If voters do that at the state election, preferences 2 and beyond will be replaced by the party ticket. Disgraceful. #springst

A "grievance debate" is currently underway in the Victorian Lower House. Here's my grievance - you lot have had not four but eight years and have still done nothing to fix your upper house electoral system. #springst

This is mostly a good article about the potential for group ticket voting to bite a government that has done nothing about it except the headline is overconfident (not the author's fault) and also it refers to "pollsters" but doesn't say who they are. https://t.co/mKfAAJwDXW

Even if Labor wins the state election, it could end up needing lengthy negotiations with micro parties or support from the Coalition to pass legislation.

The voting system for the upper house in Victoria is completely broken. Sortition would be more democratic. #springst

Just a reminder ahead of the upcoming Victorian election: I don't care who you vote for but vote below the line in the upper house and help defend democracy by disrupting preference harvesting. #springst

A reminder about @AntonyGreenElec’s submission. Has anyone in Victorian Labor even read it? @MartinPakulaMP? @BenCarrollMP? @JacintaAllanMP?

There is a deluge of micro-party registrations coming through ahead of the Vic election. Suspect this is all about group voting ticket preference harvesting in the upper house. @DanielAndrewsMP should have fixed this rort & won't like this proposed party

The Senate results for Victoria is a good reminder why the Andrews Government should have pursued the abolition of group voting tickets in the Victorian Upper House. Under group voting tickets the results for minor parties are likely to be amplified. https://t.co/tjGdsdc65p

Which would normally mean we could safely declare he has zero chance except that the Victorian upper house still has Group Ticket preference harvesting nonsense so who knows.

Victoria, we need to talk about why we're the only state left with group voting tickets, how a corrupt system determines the balance of power in our upper house, and how that very nearly left us defenceless against a pandemic. 1/4 #SpringSt #auspol #covid19aus

“Upper House voting is undemocratic… we’re at the stage now where people are buying seats in the upper house for the price of a Toyota Hilux,” says @TimRRead calling to reform a system that gave power to pass pandemic laws to those with a minuscule primary vote. @9NewsMelb

Victoria is the last Australian jurisdiction that still uses undemocratic Group Voting Tickets for its elections. Good points made here 👇 https://t.co/XbMdCkrgPi

@SamanthaRatnam It is ridiculous that Victoria still has the corrupted group voting ticket system. Thank you @SamanthaRatnam for working against it.

Just a reminder that it was not only the Greens who lost out due to Victoria’s anti-democratic upper house voting rules. @SffpVictoria also got dudded in Northern Victoria.
