So Twitter Blue accounts are given algorithmic priority (“rocket to the top”) in replies and we won’t know why some rando account is at the top of replies if they hide their ✔️
Gaming visibility in threads has been a trolling tactic forever, but now it’s built in by design.
I don't know how we're supposed to combat disinfo when verified police accounts are tweeting it out in breaking news cycles. Here's the video from the hospital entrance. It was not blocked by protesters. Just a few mouthy guys on the sidewalk.
A tense situation developing in Lynwood as a handful of protesters on sidewalk shout at deputies outside St. Francis medical center where 2 deputies are recovering from surgery after being shot tonight in Compton
Evangelicals believe Israel’s siege of Gaza is a sign of the coming Rapture. As nutty as that sounds, these people wield an enormous amount of influence, money and political power.
3 of the largest "against the quarantine" Facebook groups are admin'ed by the Dorr family, right-wing grifters who apparently do this a lot. There's a website () and a Facebook page () dedicated to exposing them. h/t

Behold the Facebook page for the Centro Cultural Kyle Rittenhouse, a real place in La Plata, Argentina. The "Kyle Rittenhouse Cultural Center" got raided today and its far-right extremist owner, José Derman, has been detained. 1/
The US State Dept quickly seized upon the OAS report and that report shaped the narrative of the election before data could be properly analyzed. A new study by independent researchers found that the OAS’ statistical analysis was flawed.
Was very frustrating to watch this unfolding in real time, and watch excellent Spanish language researchers debunk and dismantle the campaign, only to be ignored by English language media.
Extensive analysis of Bolivian social media manipulation from November was published in Spanish by experts from several countries but it didn't seem to break through to US media. Why not?

Anytime fascists in USA have a PR/optics problem, like for example a parade of them marching and spouting fascist slogans or when one of their fans commits a mass murder, this counter messaging inevitably emerges to explain no it’s Actually Leftists who are violent terrorists.
Andy Ngo uses his Twitter account to target protesters and then his followers dox them, harass & threaten them & their families.
Receipts:
What he's doing may be legal but it is not "journalism" and it's 100% against Twitter TOS.
The Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) issued a report on Nov 8 citing flaws in what it called “unsubstantiated doubts cast upon the vote count by the OAS mission.”
Content moderation is not "silencing speech" this idea needs to die in a fire. Social media platforms are not public squares, they are internet forums and they need to be moderated. Otherwise the worst elements in those internet forums take over and silence everyone else.
Facebook officially silences the President of the United States. For better or worse, this will be remembered as a turning point in the battle for control over digital speech.
I had to take my sweet boy Benny to the emergency animal hospital today. They’re keeping him 1-2 days. I hate asking for money but I can’t lose him. 😢 anything will help.
Mass diffusion of text messages via SMS of a supposed phone call made by Evo Morales more about the various facets of the info operation that took place recently in Bolivia
Fernando André Sabag Montiel, the guy who tried to assassinate the lefty VP of Argentina, has multiple nazi tattoos. In case English language media leaves that small detail out (*cough* NYT, Reuters *cough*)
It appears fentanyl does not cause significant effects through skin exposure and it appears this has been known for several years. So legacy media is doing a disinformation.
Info laundering 101: Tim Poole tweets a screenshot of a reddit thread claiming "activists are bringing guns" which is then laundered to his friend Cassandra at Gateway Pundit. She spins it as "members of antifa" and now a comment on reddit is a sensational headline on Zero Hedge.
My first case study for the Media Manipulation Casebook is on the origins of fake antifa social media accounts:
Butterfly attack: Impersonating a group identity in order to discredit them or drive social wedges.
I suspect many people are looking for explanations as to how the

I tracked the antifa hashtag throughout 2017 and every time it was *dominated* by the alt-right. Caroline was one of the few people who regularly appeared in those trends, pushing back on the false narratives that inevitably spread like wildfire.
I spent the past 2 days reading this 40 page request for funding for "Phase 2" of the Integrity Initiative. This is the most dystopian thing I've ever heard of. Journalists need to read this whole document closely because y'all are being targeted. 1/
There are a ton of new Facebook groups supporting Senator Doug Mastriano. They were all opened in Sept & Oct 2020 and Mastriano is an admin in all of them. The pinned posts soliciting donations are all by one of his volunteers. It's like a ReOpen-style Facebook group blitz.
It's very dangerous to misattribute white nationalist influence on social media as "Russian" and I do not appreciate my research being used to that end.
So here's a scenario: There are ~40K activists in jail in Egypt who haven't tweeted in years (because they're in jail) but they've probably tweeted important and historical stuff on their TL, maybe evidence of their arrests or police brutality. Evidence that Elon will now purge.
My mom panicked this morning that she was getting a text scam and they were charging her account. So I look at the texts. No links, doesn’t look like a normal phishing scam. Then I read the messages...
My 12 yr old niece wrote these texts to prank her grandma 😂

I have had at least 5 friends (including my husband, who runs troll accounts as a hobby harassing certain obv state actors) that they don't get crypto scams anymore (which used to flood Twitter) or they got all their troll accounts taken down. Noticeable change happening.

identified ~500 incidents of vigilantes or far-right activists confronting BLM protesters since May.
- 64 cases of simple assault
- 38 cases of vigilantes driving cars into protesters
- 6 left-wing protesters shot at

Yes, let's engage the substance of how your tools were setting up social ties between extremists where no ties previously existed by recommending those extremists join extremist Facebook groups and meet new extremist friends. And how you knew that in 2016.
To those news organizations who would like to move beyond an orchestrated ‘gotcha’ campaign, we are ready to engage on the substance. - John Pinette, VP Communications

tweet suggesting Trump rioters might have been "infiltrated by leftist extremists" is still up.
14.2K retweets 81.8K likes. Zero retractions.
Do not be surprised if we learn in the days ahead that the Trump rioters were infiltrated by leftist extremists. Note: this is not to excuse any of them.
On May 15, a troll campaign targeting journalists who report on the far-right was tweeted in a thread by Eoin Lenihan that was then amplified by right wing blogs & social media influencers. I graphed it.

The media are portraying the suspect in the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband as a man fundamentally driven by right-wing ideology. But it's obvious to anyone who looks that what drove David DePape to violence was drug-induced paranoid psychosis.
The amount of bullshit we were subject to by the US press after publishing a piece showing that antifa had their tentacles in the media was unbelievable. I don’t blame journalists for avoiding the topic, to be honest
21. Compare this to what happened when Raichik herself was doxxed on November 21, 2022. A photo of her home with her address was posted in a tweet that has garnered more than 10,000 likes.
A data scientist who recently quit Facebook said "1 of every 1,000 pieces of content — or 5 million of the 5 billion pieces of content posted to the social network daily — violates the company’s rules on hate speech." Less than 5% of that gets taken down.
It’s an old tactic. In Condor propaganda from the 70’s in Argentina, the strategy was the same. Leftists were labeled as violent terrorists and targeted for extermination and right wing death squads were called “counter terrorist forces” or “hardliners” (see: a few bad apples).
The claim Posobiec tweeted which also made the Daily Fail today references a 2014 article by

Glenn Greenwald, king of the strawman, defender of "powerless" Proud Boys. When these folks are your top blog referrals, maybe it's time to rethink your life choices.
I made graphs of a few Trump trains. I also talked to someone who participates in Trump trains and learned some interesting things about how train participants use Twitter:
LibsofTikTok aka Chaya Raichik sicced her Twitter followers on a female surgeon at UW Health in Madison, WI.
Retweet network for "

The media need to stop letting people use the terms "socialist" and "democratic socialist" interchangeably. It's incorrect, for one thing, but it also plays right into Trump's hands. Fear-mongering about "dangerous socialists" is a key part of his campaign strategy. 1/

My right-wing aunt did not know anyone lives in Gaza. Not sure she's convinced even after she was told people do in fact live there and can't leave.
This is a cropped version of a photo of a “covid vaccine vape” which is a hoax, and it was shared in a tweet which was then screenshotted and shared in a story on Facebook by David Wolfe who has 12 million fans (then it was shared by my friend 🤦🏻♀️)
We found evidence of 66 fake antifa Facebook pages created between 2017 to 2020 (21 are still online as of October 2020), 486 Twitter accounts (218 still online as of October 2020), 12 mostly dormant Gab accounts, 8 YouTube channels, 3 Instagram & 5 Minds.
It's impossible to summarize this in tweets but I will try. In 2015 a team of researchers found a cache of documents in the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs that included 4 years worth of contracts between US PR firm Burson-Marsteller and the junta.
The Daily Wire has a coordinated network of 13 feeder pages on Facebook, which combined with their 4 main verified Facebook pages has a combined audience of 15,895,329 followers per post.

Anyway I'm off on a tangent that I could tweet about literally all day. But the point is, anyone calling the left "antifa terrorists" or using the pejorative term "antifa" is participating in deliberate counter-messaging to shift the narrative away from right wing extremism.
Andy Ngo did not write the article, but he and Quillette were instrumental in promoting its baseless claims against journalists who were then targeted by neo-nazis. Andy Ngo and Quillette were central nodes that spread lies and there were consequences for what they published.
Can we talk about the design of this madness for a minute? Because squeezing this much text into a design while maintaining legibility, balance and flow is not easy to execute.
