Saw Jeong while we were covering the Monterey Park shooting anniversary and reassured him he'd be fine because I couldn't fathom the la times dropping essential coverage from such a fine reporter. Color me shocked.

The Monterey Park dance party was organized by one of the survivors Lloyd Gock. “This is the proof that we are still here, right?…. He (the shooter) didn’t win. We win. We’re still dancing.”

A striking moment of the night was when one of the Monterey Park survivors Cindy Lao led other line dancers in formation to a Chinese pop song about light rain in March – the same song they danced to the night of the mass shooting.

A year after the deadliest mass shooting in LA County history, Monterey Park gathers for a candlelight vigil. In a sign of how the city has changed and adapted, crisis counselors seen here in yellow lanyards are on hand to help anyone having a hard time.

PSA for LA: Today is your last chance to eat at Suehiro Cafe. Closing for good at 1 am after 50+ years in Little Tokyo. The restaurant is being evicted to make way for some unannounced tenant and has to be completely out of its 1st Street spot next week
