Astoria's volunteer-run public space on 31st Ave from 33rd to 35th Street. On winter break - see you in the Spring! Say hi: https://t.co/c2WU8urpKQ

Why don't kids play outside like they used to? Because we made "outside" a dangerous and inaccessible place for kids! Open Streets are giving city kids their childhood back: raising a generation that will rediscover what it means to be home by the time the streetlights come on.
I love that on @34_ave kids don’t feel the need to rush home to watch TV or play video games. They hang out & socialize with one other. Today we played chess, checkers, parcheesi & jenga. #OpenStreets can transform an ordinary street into a safe & joyful community space.

Nice spot in @queenspost about our growth at @31stAveOS from a rag-tag team of volunteers and neighbors to a (still very much rag-tag) 501(c)(3) nonprofit 👌 https://t.co/1s0XaJIYOC

Daylighting is an important tool to make NYC streets safer. Hear Rachel Grosso who lives on UWS explain the benefits and how our "friends across the river" in Hoboken have had 7 years of zero fatalities. We need #UniversalDaylighting! @OpenPlans @StreetsblogNYC @chabot_jackson

Did you miss us? The Open Street is back this Saturday! We couldn't be more excited to enter our 5th season caring for this free community space in the heart of Astoria. This weekend we've got a bustling roster of events on Saturday and a laid back Sunday afternoon 🧵

This is the most amazing thing in NYC, and it is insane that it has been years, and we STILL only have it in ONE street in Queens. Why haven't we scaled this up? Why aren't ALL residential areas like this? Why isn't there even a plan? @Lynn4NYC @NYCMayor @yating_liu
Best thing spotted on our Open Street today: a 9 year old showing her younger friend how to ride a bike. I overheard her confidently proclaiming to her student that within one week she will be able to ride on her own. #OpenStreets

Ireland is just next door with this upcoming NYC DOT Art project! In May, "The Portal", a public sculpture that broadcasts real-time video, will be installed in @FlatironNY & Dublin's O’Connell St, bringing New Yorkers & Dubliners together. https://t.co/15rNWxYxy3

But more than anything, we need @NYC_DOT to step up. The reimbursement model in itself is a major equity issue that limits participation in Open Streets to communities that can pay for costs upfront, and it's worsened when those communities are left holding the bag for 8 months
