Clear explanation from Owen Polley on the Hamas flag flying over Belfast City Hall. The Irish hatred of Israel is so total it has to be seen as pathological. In NI it is yet more extreme as the settler Jews are seen as a proxy for the planter Protestants.
Irish nationalists have repeatedly drawn parallels between their own aspirations to destroy Northern Ireland and Palestinians’ goal of wiping Israel from the map.

You voted to put this divisive flag up. Then when predictably there are problems on the streets, you disown it and try to blame the DUP. There is a lot you can criticise the DUP for, but this one is on you and your colleagues.
For months some of your colleagues have whipped up those involved in this, for months many of us have warned this would create more trouble & embolden vigilantes. This was best summed up on Monday night by your Deputy Group Leader cheering and waving to the mob at the back gate.

The Palestine flag was designed by British soldier/diplomat/Tory MP Mark Sykes. Originally used as the flag of the Arab Revolt it was adopted & slightly modified by the PLO in 1964. Great to see the Empire still having a big influence, especially in West Belfast! 😆#RuleBritannia
