I was delighted to speak yesterday at the Kidney Health Initiative’s annual meeting. This is an area of medicine & science of great interest to me, both because of the enormous scientific & clinical challenges posed as well as the enormous opportunities tied to medical advances.

Glad to see more #artificialkidney coverage, especially of lesser known approaches like Ira Kurtz's @UCLAHealth. Lots of good competition in this space that we hope to move forward at @Kidney_X. Thanks to @Nature for the great survey of the field.

This challenge requires designing innovations with cost and access in mind. #ArtificialKidneys cannot be another social determinant of health, so developers must understand what is good enough and have a target market in mind. #KidneyWk

Addressing this challenge requires a method to help transition early stage and academic projects to VC ready companies so we have more @OutsetMedical and @quanta. Understanding user needs and #kidneypatient aspirations will help with this. #KidneyWk
