I love photographing birds in flight. The challenge is great, and when I succeed - I am very satisfied.
This Rufous-tailed Scrub-Robin flew straight at me while singing, this morning not far from home. What a stunner. Sound recording here:

Mega: Perhaps the most bizzare record of the year, a young Rueppell's Vulture landed last night in a staircase of a 50th floor in Tel Aviv, taken into care this morning. 2nd record for Israel if accepted

The leucistic Eurasian Jackdaw at Tsora is a stunning bird. It is leucistic and not albino bc legs and bill are black. It is having a hard time with its black relatives, continuously being harassed.

to ban hunting of Turtle Dove & Quail for three more years! This is an important & timely decision that reflects the understanding that in our era of global biodiversity crisis, recreational hunting, especially of threatened species, cannot continue. (1/4)

They breed so fast! This individual hatched in 2021 and is already heading south. Incredible that only two months ago its parents' generation passed through the JBO heading north.
I went scuba diving today in Eilat w my son. That was just an excuse for a great day of birding. Early am north beach produced IL tick - Manx Shearwater. Then flood of migrants at IBRCE. Then on the way back home this smart Terek, found minutes earlier by Shachar Shalev at km20
Syrian Serin is a personal favourite. This range-restricted, globally threatened sweet little finch breeds in Israel only on Mt. Hermon. It migrates in winter to arid and semi-arid parts of the country. This morning I encountered a flock of 11

I love White-winged Terns, so agile and beautiful. Once only a migrant, in recent decade it has become a common winter visitor to Israel.

I have a question about bird bristles. While ringing/banding I noticed that some birds have bristles at the back of their heads. Look closely in my photos. I find no mention of this in literature - am I missing anything?

In Hebrew, Eastern Black-eared Wheatear is 'Summer Wheatear' (סלעית קיץ). Finsch's Wheatear is 'Winter Wheatear' (סלעית חורף). One has just arrived, the other is leaving soon. Nice to get both in one frame, this morning
This male Eastern Black-eared Wheatear took up residence near my daughter's school. He's been using this tiny patch of nothing for almost a week now. It's very busy there with lots of kids, dog-walkers, joggers, traffic etc. Today I even heard him singing quietly. Migration magic
Africa calling!
Thrilled to share that tomorrow night I will fly out to Uganda to attend the African Birding Expo. Before the expo I will travel throughout Uganda, and enjoy the spectacular wildlife of the Pearl of Africa. This is my first visit to Uganda, can't wait!

Migration madness here in central Israel for
#COTF20
Thousands of pelicans, storks, cranes, eagles, buzzards, kites filling the skies. Unstable weather resulting in very low migration
Crazy scenes off North Beach, Eilat this morning. Dozens of White-cheeked Terns and White-eyed Gulls in a feeding frenzy over a fish boil. Bridled, Lesser Crested, Arctic, Common and Caspian Terns thrown in for good measure.
