Here's a recently published article that talks about it!
Most Western video games about the Middle East involve killing, shooting, and war. This game from Iran, however, is about the beauty of Islamic art. And its core gameplay mechanic is wildly creative. Thanks
@bahrami_
for letting me interview you!
Did you ever wonder why we don't we see Native restaurants on every street corner in the U.S.? We went on a road trip through the American southwest to learn why (and eat lots of Native American cuisine).
I went to see
@hasanminhaj
in NYC and then had Iranian food with my friends afterwards.
Now
@Venmo
is blocking my transaction because of the word “Iranian” in my friend’s request.
Venmo wants detailed documents to before approving the transaction. This is fucking ridiculous.
Bon Appetit failed to feature a single Iranian brand or voice in their saffron article (despite Iran producing 90% of the world’s saffron), so here’s a trusted Iranian brand you can support:
Sahar Khiz.
I’m cooking with it tomorrow.
Iran is the world's fourth-largest *per capita* consumer of tea. But how'd that happen?

I took this pic in July 2015 in Tehran after the nuclear deal had been signed. I will never forget that night—the celebrations it sparked, the hope it instilled, and the peace it heralded. And to think it would all come crashing down b/c of the caprice of a reality TV show host.
Hamas "killed" Israelis but the Palestinians just "died"?
Who caused the Palestinians to "die,"
@nytimes
?
All my journalism professors told me write in the active voice, to identify the agent of the action. I guess when it comes Israel-Palestine, those rules don't pertain.
Barbara Boxer says “Iranians are not good people, they are vicious.”
Hillary Clinton is “proud” to be enemies with “the Iranians.”
Trump calls Iran a “terrorist nation.”
As Iranian Americans, we, and ordinary folks in Iran, have for years been everyone’s favorite punching bag
This touched me.
It’s a two-minute film by a 20-year-old Iranian filmmaker that won an award at the Luxor Film Festival in Egypt.
No language skills necessary to understand its heartfelt message.
There's a double standard when it comes to MSG. When it's used in Western foods, it's no big deal. But when it's used in Chinese food, people freak out (and coin phrases like "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome.") So what's the deal? I decided to investigate.

One of my favorite

19-year-old Iranian chef Mershad Shahidi was killed by security forces while in custody.
He is one of hundreds of Iranians who’ve been killed in the brutal crackdown on nationwide protests calling for an end to Iran’s Islamic Republic regime.

Pre-pandemic I traveled to Salinas, CA to experience firsthand why farm work is more difficult, complex and SKILLED than we can imagine. Our latest doc:

As war-crime-prone President Trump threatens to destroy Iran's cultural heritage, here's a reminder of how that very cultural heritage continues to inspire a new generation of Iranian creatives:
Did you know "No Trespassing" signs have racist origins?
I joined up with
@BlackForager
to explore that past – and how it all relates to the art of foraging:
These days, as Iranian-Americans, it sometimes feels like we’re under attack for our ties to Iran. So I went back home to talk to my parents about their immigration story – and how they raised me to be a hyphenated American.

Iran, Cuba, Syria are among them.
This is a nonsensical way to abide by U.S. sanctions law, but

Iranian friends:
Please circulate this video among your Iranian relatives on WhatsApp. Racist language, specifically toward Black people, is still prevalent in Iran—and in the diaspora.

Before 1979, Iran was a land of "joy," "peace," and “endless opportunity” for every Iranian, according to the U.S. State Department (
@StateDept
)
Lol.
Here's why that’s total BS:
Iran has a rich history of human rights from the time of Cyrus up until the 1979 revolution. The Iranian people have suffered from a regressive regime and deserve a brighter future.
Breaking News: Iran will stop complying with parts of the nuclear deal, the country's president said. The move escalates a confrontation with the United States.
Adding insult to injury, Iran is again called "Eye-Ran."
You mispronounce our heritage, and say our food makes you vomit. This is how you light a xenophobic fire.
Senator
@LindseyGrahamSC
, per your words about Iranians, may I suggest watching this

Hi

Do not say Iran. It is a bad word. Any reference to your Iranian culture and heritage is bad, so please censor your identity so your payment can go through. Sorry, we don't have a moral compass of our own.

Nearly brought me to TEARS:
a short film about a young Iranian girl who immigrates to the US during the hostage crisis years and is incessantly mocked for her unibrow. A relatable story for many Middle Eastern Americans.
I can't help but feel guilty sitting here in San Francisco as the hard-earned savings of my beloved relatives in Iran vanish into thin air because of the U.S. govt's decision to once again inflict collective punishment on ordinary Iranians over disagreements it has w/ their govt.

There are many schisms within the Iranian diaspora right now and I’m so saddened to see those schisms being exacerbated in a truly horrific, witch hunt-esque way.
So many schisms, in fact, that I’m certain someone will attack me just for tweeting this.

I just watched one of the BEST docs I’ve seen in a while. It’s called Coup 53 & it’s about the CIA/MI6-led coup to overthrew Iran’s democratically elected leader Mohammad Mossadegh in 1953 – a story near and dear to many Iranians.
