Twitter is enforcing its long-standing API rules. That may result in some apps not working.

But like, who was expecting tech bros to really care about users for their 20$/mo, right? Most likely @dsiroker will just ignore any kind of critics & this kind of shitty ethics will fly. Mix this with shitloads of VC money and extorting and exploiting is almost inevitable.

Just to clarify the point about 'not being encrypted at rest': Rewind doesn't provide an additional layer of encryption beyond the built-in full-disk encryption provided by FileVault. It protects your data if the device is lost, but it doesn't protect against malicious apps.

Today, they announced a recording device with the same "we take a privacy-first approach" bullshit claims. But how can you trust to wear recording device if they don't trust you with your own data?"

You have no way to know what's actually being extracted, stored, and processed. Or shared with "LLM partners" when using summarization or Ask Rewind. When this data leaks (it eventually does) you won't even know what it's going to bite you. 5/n

I understand data is their moat, but don't BS users with "Trust," "Privacy first," & "You're in control of your data." Users have zero control and are _deliberately_ locked out of _their_ data. 4/n

When I asked how to get my data, I was told: "At the moment, we do not provide the keychain password or have a supported API." This isn't a security feature; it's blatant lock-in. 3/n

Raw screen video recordings aren't encrypted at rest, but SQLite storage with processed data is encrypted. The key-ish thingie is stored in the OSX keychain but can't decrypt SQLite. 2/n

Today's Pedant announcement reminded me that @RewindAI and @dsiroker are bullshitting you. Which is really sad because Rewind is an awesome tool I use every day. 1/n

Since bridges are burning, can you reply to this tweet with news/blogs you read, that are already on mastodon?
