It has anti-tamper features, and that explains the NOCRANKs she complained about. Also, whoever installed it put it on the wrong side of the low-battery cutout protection. The splice job was worse than Ford's wiring, but the zip ties did help it all blend in.

OK, that sounds sinister. She bought it used. It's a Ford. It was probably a rental. The device is a well known brand in fleet tracking. I just never expected it to be there. Also, the status LEDs indicate it is still registered, transmitting, and RECEIVING. 😮

Seriously Ford, if I cant get to a FUSEBOX without disassembling the dashboard, you done fushed up. But I found it and.... oh my. Not what I expected. An always-on cell-connected tracking device with kill switch deep inside the driver-side.

So, Grammy's Ford is back in my driveway after the latest breakdown. It keeps killing perfectly good batteries. Parasitic drain test positive, so I've been tracking that down for two days. Spent all of today disassembling/reassembling the dash to get to connectors.

True that, and Hyundai is still working on "minimal long term reliability." Still, credit where credit is due... their design/style department has been absolutely killing it.

THE WIZARD OF SPEED AND TIME 1979 This incredibly impressive short film was shown on Wonderful World of Disney, and 10 years later turned into a feature. It just goes to show what a little money and a lot of talent can do!

This is setting a very dangerous precedent. “To invoke the protections of the First Amendment, the proponent must show that the particular use of the code burdened by a regulation involves the expression or communication of ideas in a way that implicates the First Amendment,”

just found out that one of my favorite artists, Robert Tinney (b. 1947), passed away on Feb 1st. his Byte Magazine art from the 70s to the 80s whimsically encapsulated the tech hype of the era. a few of my favorites by him. RIP
