Jordan Burroughs represented USA for a decade. He pushed us forward and was a huge factor in the 2017 world title. I will never forget watching him terrorize 74kg
Marinelli's path
1st rd: Joe Smith
2nd rd: Viruet (went to OT at Midlands)
Quarters: Mekhi (lost to Lewis at JR Trials)
Semis: Wick (once lost 16-3 to Wick)
Worst draw I've ever seen for a 1 seed
Man. I hope JO wins an Olympic gold for the ultimate mic drop of everyone that doubted him, questioned him, dropped him. All the stuff in 2017. What a career for that dude.
Dear
@GableSteveson
,
If this was your last match, thank you for everything you gave us. If it wasn't, God help the heavyweight field. Long may you reign 👑
Sincerely, wrestling fans.
Coach Ayres and Coach Goodale said the first time their programs faced each other there were 22 people in College Ave Gym. Today the RAC had 5,290 fans in it.
Kudos to these schools:
Little Rock - First AAs in program history
Campbell - second AA in program history
Army - first AA since 2008
Columbia - first AA since 2013
Navy - first AA since 2016
Ohio - first AA since 2016
I was a wreck at dinner tonight, thinking about all the college athletes whose careers may be over and all of the Olympic athletes trying to qualify their weight for a Games that may not even happen this year.
The last four NCAA champs at 133
2018: Seth Gross
2017: Cory Clark
2016: Nahshon Garrett
2015: Cody Brewer
All of them will be wrestling 61kg in Vegas.
Incredibly happy for J'den, who continues an incredible run. My heart hurts for Jordan, who has been nothing but an amazing leader for this team for nearly a decade. Anxious to see Tamyra in her first gold medal match. The emotions of the world championships in a nutshell.
Cenzo, Mark, and Starocci all lost their first career dual match, didn't win Big Tens, and then won NCAAs as freshmen. Not sure what it means but an interesting pattern
Call me crazy, but maybe the most scrutinized college wrestler of all-time who repeatedly suffered serious knee injuries and had the six years long pressure of becoming a four-timer end agonizingly on a public scale needs a break from wrestling? And shouldn't be expected in Vegas
I am most especially confused at Penn State fans who are pissed about the way the DeSanto match ended. Whatever the circumstances were, it was literally the best possible outcome for PSU.
No matter where you stand on the Smith/Burroughs debate, no matter which side you were on in the rivalry with Dake, Jordan has changed the trajectory of wrestling in this country. What a God Damn Legend
I hope David comes back 100% as quickly as possible. Downey's job this year is to qualify the 86kg spot for Tokyo and help America win another team title. Let's go USA
JB is the GOAT. It is impossible to say everything he did to raise the level of wrestling in this country. We don't get the versions of Nolf and Dake we got without Jordan Ernest Burroughs.
It's a potentially transformative day for the sport. My brothers in Austin have poured everything into this event, and 10 incredible athletes will be taking the mat. I hope you're all watching tonight.
I also want to point out that all you guys who hate on Iowa and Gable for "being dirty" or whatever, no one wrestles more aggressively or toes the line as much as Penn State. And it's all good, I like when guys wrestle like that. But part of being a good wrestler is being a dick
