3 yrs ago, I made it my mission to write a YA fantasy book with a Black boy lead. No police brutality& no racial trauma.
This is Malik Baron, a country boy from Helena, Alabama blessed with Hoodoo magic.
BLOOD AT THE ROOT. May 2024.
Pre-order now:
A Black woman Queen in Georgia opened her own movie studio. She just acquired a fast station and grocery store to film at.
And she’s affordable. Y’all at C&C Movie film studio is doing theee MF thang. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
If y’all don’t understand “range” when it comes to acting. Why are you speaking?
Taraji’s acting range is expansive, but y’all wouldn’t know that outside of Cookie Lyon.
Because it was celebrating Black ancestry, African ancestry, and folks called it demonic and said “Bey needs to stop making civil rights music, we wanna dance.”
Anti-Black AF.
Esther Rolle literally fought for a Black father representation in Good Times. She risked everything, and when they killed John Amos off, she literally left the show—we can’t keep spitting in their faces like this.
Stephanie Meyer said, “Black vampires can’t exist in her world because the ‘venom’ eats up their melanin, making them pale white.”
And she has the nerve to call that the “beautification process.”
Chileeee
The black community really rejected Wish 😭😭
I bet if I asked a random person most people wouldn't even know if there is more than one black Disney princess now
I hope we get a backstory next season.
Also it’s kinda sad that Liza Colón-Zayas was left out the awards convo. Because mama be acting. Those little small, subtle moments in the cooking school and her at the Karaoke bar—that’s acting!
Content creators all over Tik Tok going crazy because they can’t “promote” movies.
“We have to make money and feed our familes.”
Ummmmm so writers and the actors don’t? BFFR.
I know Jonathan Majors is the IT guy in Hollywood. Just reminding y’all Yahya Abdul Mateen been doing numbers, and Trevante Rhodes & Kelvin Harrison Jr are selecting quality roles and working to those Oscar nominations. These are the IT men for me.
If the Emmy’s were fair to Black women comedic actresses:
These three Black women gave some of the best comedic acting and they were paid dust.
Wendy Raquel Robinson for Tasha Mack “The Game”
Tichina Arnold - Rochelle Everybody Hates Chris
Tracee Ellis Ross - Girlfriends
Ray Campbell doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Because He was one of thee best Black fathers on TV. Caring. Loving. Attentive. No scandals.
Pay this man his MF flowers
“Why aren’t Black directors and writers not writing the Black fantasy stuff?! We want niggas doing magic. We want Black Hogwarts.”
Us Black fantasy writers out here, fighting for our lives in these pitch meetings:
We not talking enough about Taraji’s vocals! This woman been training for two years singing and she really held her own vocally to theee Fantasia?!!

I know there’s a lot of criticism about Donald Glover—but one thing you hear from yo and coming Black creatives is that he’s there, reaching out and helping.
He even read Ryan cooglers first drafts of Black Panther and gave him advice. I would be so interested to see how he…
The biggest upset for Black and Brown artists is not always losing the Oscar it’s the face sometimes they don’t get the material to get them back most of the time.
Emma got Lala Land and Poor Things.
Cillian Murphy will get more scripts…
Christopher Nolan is gonna get another…
You sat there and review bombed all the BIPOC books coming in 2024 because you just had to be racist, and now you lost your whole book deal….
The ancestors showing out tuhday.
“Well—I wanna see Black genre films and fantasy.”
Cool— did you know there’s a story about Black folks shapeshifting and a family who had the ability to fly?
Southern folklore is such a topic we don’t really talk about in films or TV—but hey, I definitely am.
A play I wrote while living in my car chasing this writing dream is in the Hollywood reporter and getting a Broadway campaign.
I truly cannot believe my life.
Djimon Hounsou deserves the world and I’m tired of Hollywood paying him dust. He should not be relegated to only small or very subservient roles.
I’ve always been a fan and would love and be honored to work with him one day.
Give this Black man his flowers!
@excydius
Be on the look out for my television series Blood at the Root a series based at a magical HBCU in the dirty South! A Black Harry Potter.
It’s hella Black, hella magical.
#BloodattheRoot
I’m so glad Coleman is adding this nuance to the convo. Because it’s sooooo easy to throw away a character like Mister and just hate him. But he was a victim as well. And hurt people hurt people.
“I would never read a script that’s written in Microsoft word.”
Bruh—not everybody can afford a $300 screenwriting program.
A lot of the screenwriting “rules” are pretentious AF.
I used to write my scripts while working Drive-thru at Taco Bell back in Alabama.
And tomorrow, 7 years later, I have first round of producer notes before we go out to pitch to networks and studios.
But. Gawd.
When a regular group of people in South London are gifted with superpowers, they find their new abilities have made them targets for a powerful entity.
Supacell, a new series created by Rapman, premieres this June.
The shot that made me scream “COME ON CINEMATOGRAPHY!” In the middle of the theater.
My Gawd! Dan Laustsen and
@BlitzAmbassador
y’all are not human. Cause this is one of the most beautiful images I’ve ever seen.

That’s why I didn’t pay too much attention to the whole Barbie snub thing…
Like, Greta, as a director, will be fine. Margot will be fine. They’re going to get the scripts and the jobs and funding.
But look at how Ava had to struggle to get funding for Origin. And Academy Award…
As a playwright I’ve been rejected by every theater & playwriting competition I can think of. Now I have network execs requesting to read my plays. Moral of the story: keep writing that script. It may seem like no one wants it. But it may be the thing to usher u into your dreams.
I think in a world of Michael B. Jordan, Johnathan Majors and Yayas…I like to see more Big and Tall Black male representation too.
Not for comedic relief. But fully realized without having the “super hero body”.
Love to see Brian Tyree as a romantic lead.
Speaking of Black voices, I’m a filmmaker, playwright who is writing about the Black experience in the south. I have short films avail on YouTube ranging from hurricane Katrina-to a magical HBCU to young Black love. Check them out:
The timeline all day:
Debating about Amanda Seales
Zodiac sign fights
Raymonte and Cardi B now arguing
And that white TikToker going viral for not liking Cowboy Carter….
Audiobooks is not reading debate
“We wanted a magical HBCU Hogwarts story. Why is nobody writing that?”
Me after promoting my book that’s literally about a magical HBCU and Black people reclaiming their magical and ancestral connection:
Yasuke was the world’s first Black samurai.
When a 6-foot-tall African slave landed in Japan, he stuck out like a sore thumb. People lost all modesty and nearly caused a stampede trying to get a closer look. Such a sight was so foreign in Kyoto.
