5th September today. On 5th October these two sides play the World Cup opener in Ahmedabad. Australia to win
#CWC23
in my view. They know how to win ICC trophies, they won an ODI series in India this year and their preparation is excellent with 5 ODIs in SA & 3 in Ind this month.
@CricCrazyJohns
How good was your Captain yesterday.
- Playing late.
- Playing close to his body.
- Playing with soft hands.
- Leaving well.
- Batting outside his crease.
- Being watchful and patient.
- Running hard between the wickets for singles and doubles as only hit one boundary.
Quality 👏
@SkyCricket
My favourite line in this clip is from Butcher when he talks about NZ happily announcing a tour of India just a few days after pulling out of India's neighbour due to a security threat.
@ESPNcricinfo
I told Indians in advance that Shastri will end his coaching career with a consolation win over Namibia.
I said this on the day that India completed a win over Australia in a warm up game and when several people were labelling them as "hot favourites" for the title.
Wasim Akram kon?
Imran Khan kon?
Today's 26 years since Pak won the 1994 Hockey World Cup in Sydney. The last time Pakistan won a World Cup in any major sport. But it never gets anywhere the credit it deserves in the same way as 25th March 1992 in Melbourne.
#forgottenWorldCupwin
@CricCrazyJohns
Stokes to play his first ODI since Sunday 14th July and the World Cup final.
England played 33 ODIs between May 2015 and October 2016 after crashing out of the World Cup in 2015. Only played 9 ODIs since the 2019 World Cup. Introduction of the ODI league = context over quantity.
@CricCrazyJohns
10 years today Rahul Dravid scored his 35th but last overseas Test century at The Oval in London.
He carried his bat (all 10 Indian wickets fell around him). It was a special performance from the 38 year old veteran at the time in what was his final Test innings on English soil.
Why are the Karachi media silent on Rizwan's performance? I know Sarfraz is their favourite. But for a bloke in his second Test that was just extraordinary from Rizwan. Under pressure with the game situation, against arguably the best attack going on a ground Aus love playing at.
@David215Gower
@thePSLt20
Hope it can lead to a return to Test Cricket commentary in the future.
In 2022 Pakistan host Test series against Australia, New Zealand and England. Perhaps you could be a neutral voice for future Test tours of Pakistan in a similar way that Michael Holding has been in England.
@_King_Caesar
@bhogleharsha
Calling somebody Paki is not like calling an Australian an Aussie.
It has negative connotations associated with people who came to the UK to set up corner shops and work as taxi drivers. It is associated with immigrants and low skilled citizens. So it is not a pleasant reference.
Misbah ul Haq was by far the most successful Pakistan Captain when it came to Test Match success vs England.
3-0 in 2012. Most 50+ scores in the series too.
2-0 in 2015. Most 50+ scores in the series again.
And backed it up with a 2-2 drawn series in Eng 2016 and man of series
@ESPNcricinfo
Ind vs Pak
Pakistan is ranked higher than India in the World Test Championship.
Pakistan is ranked higher than India in ODIs.
Pakistan went further than India in the recent T20 World Cup.
Ok Pakistan didn't make the semi finals of the Women's World Cup, but neither did India.
10 years today Misbah was appointed Pakistan Test Captain at the age of 36 having only played 19 Tests with a batting average of 34.
But he went on to lead till the age of 42 during which he won most Tests as Pakistan Captain and scored 35 50s and 8 100s in 99 innings as Captain.
@TheBarmyArmy
Sometimes you wonder where Test Cricket would be without
@TheBarmyArmy
. They save up for Test tours unlike Asian fans who save up for World Cups.
Us Pakistanis and Indians are too consumed in PSL and IPL and white ball cricket in general. Whereas
@TheBarmyArmy
prioritise Tests.
28 years today Pakistan won the 1994 Hockey World Cup final against the Dutch in Sydney.
Pakistan have won 4 Hockey World Cups in 1971, 1978, 1982 and 1994. In comparison India have won just 1.
But Pakistan haven't qualified for the upcoming Hockey World Cup in India next month
@CricCrazyJohns
Did you Indians know that Rizwan, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez and Yasir Shah are in the running to be one of the 5 Wisden Cricketers of the Year. Will be revealed on 14th or 15th April. Obviously no Indians in the running because India didn't tour England last year.
@Athersmike
Very true Athers. Pakistan were in England for 66 days without families last summer living in tight bubbles at not the most luxurious of hotels. Even players who were just involved in the T20 leg of the tour had to stay the full 66 days due to a chartered flight. Deserve answers.
@bhogleharsha
No huge surprise to see two media men getting coaching gigs.
Both have worked as commentators with Ramiz. Hayden in the past and Philander recently.
@sayyam_here
@WisdenCricket
You don't know the rules do you? Performance in England only from the previous year and mainly focusing on red ball cricket.
@ICC
Indians, watch out for Pakistan in the next cycle of the Test Championship where Pak have no SENA tours. Pak will be a serious contender to win the World Test Championship in 2023 (a proper complete Test Championship, not a covid interuppted edition that India might win in June).
@ICC
Problem with these tables is people just look at number of Tests played by the bigger nations and think they have the advantage. Not the case. England are involved in longer series and therefore get less points for their Test wins. NZ are in the final by racking up 2-0 (2) wins.
Happy birthday to Wasim Khan who brings up his half century today. What a fine job he is doing:
- Revamped domestic structure with six regions.
- Test Cricket returning to Pakistan.
- PSL being held in Pakistan entirely.
- International broadcast deals with the likes of Sky in UK
Only Joe Root and Alastair Cook have faced more deliveries in Test Cricket since
@AzharAli_
's Test debut in July 2010 at
@HomeOfCricket
vs Aus. Steve Smith + Tim Paine also made their debuts in that Test. Look how similar the career stats of Azhar and Pujara (2010 debut too) are!
@vikrantgupta73
Even if India win 2023 WC at home.
That won't change the fact that they have never won a 50 over world final away from home like Pakistan in 1992 and 2017.
1983 was 60 overs.
2013 CT was a 20/20 final.
@CountyChamp
Historic pictures for today's youth. An Indian and Pakistani international going head to head with a red ball.
Pujara has played 95 Tests, but it is the first time he is facing a Pakistani bowler in his first class career.
@ICC
@SussexCCC
Ab bolo
@narendramodi
so there should be no Indo-Pak cricket right? Likewise
@JayShah
@SGanguly99

Either play or stop letting them play with each other.
None of this half and half approach like you currently have.
You are scoring an own goal with this approach!
@ESPNcricinfo
Won 3-0 vs Eng in 2012
Won 2-0 vs Eng in 2015
Drew 2-2 in Eng 2016
Drew 1-1 in Eng 2018
No one could have imagined Pakistan would lose 3-0 in England's first Test tour of Pakistan for 17 years given how successful Pakistan had been in the UAE and in England against them. Shock.
@ESPNcricinfo
Only team to reach 5 T20WC semis is Pakistan.
8 consecutive wins for Pakistan in ICC Events.
15 consecutive wins for Pakistan in T20Is in the UAE.
Who is India?
@ESPNcricinfo
Australia have won their last 11 international games vs Pakistan.
But Pakistan have won 15 of their last 17 international matches and will be playing at home.
Aus also haven't won a Test in Asia vs Pak since 2002. They were winless in the 2014 and 2018 Test tours of the UAE.
@ICC
Pakistan's next 7 Test series:
Zim away.
WI away.
Bang away.
Aus home.
SL away.
NZ home.
Eng home.
Pakistan number 1 in the Test rankings in early 2023? Very possible.
@TheBarmyArmy
@btsportcricket
Everyone (sensible) knew what he was saying there and then.
Only sensitive Indians were getting offended by the mention of the 3 letters IPL.
@MichaelVaughan
Bad memories for India at The Oval.
Lost Test there in 2011.
Lost Test there in 2014.
Lost Test there in 2018.
Lost to Sri Lanka in
#CT17
.
Lost to Pakistan in
#CT17
.
But there have been some good memories for India like beating WI in
#CT13
and SA in
#CT17
and Aus in
#CWC19
too
@hashmi_shahid
Calm down Shahid.
Rizwan has been prolific over the last couple of years. And not just in T20. Competition and a break from the firing line isn't a bad thing.
@ICC
World Test Championship fixtures lost at home since the World Test Championship started in 2019:
England = 5.
India = 1.
South Africa = 4.
New Zealand = 2.
Australia = 2.
Sri Lanka = 3.
Bangladesh = 4.
West Indies = 5.
Pakistan = 0.
All sides but Bang have played at least 7 Tests
Exactly 10 years today Captain Misbah ul Haq batted for 226 balls unbeaten in Wellington on a 5th day wicket with a class act like Vettori plugging away from one end.
This helped Pakistan secure their first Test series win in over 4 years in Misbah's first away series as Captain.
Dominic Cork to commentate in the PSL. He was commentating in the 2009 Test series vs Sri Lanka when the incident happened and said he will never ever return to Pakistan in his lifetime. Obviously was emotional and opinions can change over time and he has now changed his mind.
@ICC
Didn't go to well for
@BCCI
last time they played an ICC final at The Oval did it?
Us Pakistanis have also won 5 Tests at the venue (1954, 1992, 1996, 2010 and 2016) in comparison to India's 2 (1971 and 2021).
Oval is a ground we own.
Good luck vs Aus at Pakistan's fortress.
@ICC
England now need to win both remaining Tests to qualify for the World Test Championship final against the Kiwis or they are knocked out of the race.
If England only win 1 then Australia make the final.
India just need to win the series. Any defeat for India will be curtains.
@ICC
Test Cricket coming up in June:
2nd-6th June: England vs New Zealand in 1st Test at Lord's.
10th-14th June: England vs New Zealand in 2nd Test at Edgbaston.
18th-22nd June: New Zealand vs India in the final of the World Test Championship at Ageas Bowl or Lord's.
#WTC21
@MazherArshad
Pakistan in ODIs since the World Cup defeat at Old Trafford to India on Sunday 16th June 2019:
Won 9.
Lost 1. (Super Over)
4 in Eng at WC vs SA, NZ, BD and Afg.
5 in Pak - 2 vs SL and 3 vs Zim.
1 in SA.
@ICC
10 years today Rahul Dravid scored his 35th but last overseas Test century at The Oval in London.
He carried his bat (all 10 Indian wickets fell around him). It was a special performance from the 38 year old veteran at the time in what was his final Test innings on English soil.
@_FaridKhan
Cricket was more fun in pre
@IPL
days when there used to be annual Indo-Pak Test series in 2004-2007. Not a single Test since season 1 of the IPL between the two.
@BCCI
found news ways to make money with the
@IPL
and ditched
@TheRealPCB
from 2008 onwards.
@MichaelVaughan
If India is serious about Test Cricket and becoming a "champion" Test team - they need to make sure their Test players miss majority of the next
@IPL
and try and play in the
@CountyChamp
ahead of their WTC final showdown vs Aus. Cummins is resting for it. County stint for Marnus.
Misbah ul Haq by contrast had never passed 50 even once in international cricket on his 28th birthday. And he went on to pass 50 on 94 occasions for Pakistan in international cricket.
Not everyone will be as phenomenal with age as Misbah but it goes to show plenty left in Babar.
@ICC
Australia have 5 home Tests in 40 days. 2 vs WI. 3 vs SA.
Pakistan have 5 home Tests in 39 days. 3 vs Eng. 2 vs NZ.
These two are favourites to make it through to The Oval with successive home series still to play. They can control their destiny in their own hands - pitches etc
@CricCrazyJohns
The future of Test Cricket is at stake on Friday. The first world final of a format that has been played since 1877. Doesn't matter whether
@BCCI
win or
@BLACKCAPS
win - Test Cricket will be the winner. But both teams have a duty to put on a spectacle and bring out their "A" game
@bhogleharsha
I think we all saw how good the quality of the
@IPL
is last year. DK was smashing it all over the place. But when it came to the
@T20WorldCup
for
@BCCI
he could barely clear the circle.
@bhogleharsha
India's last "completed" Test series in each SENA nation:
Aus = Won 2-1.
Eng = Lost 4-1.
SA = Lost 2-1.
NZ = Lost 2-0.
India's last ODI series in each SENA nation:
Aus = Lost 2-1.
Eng = Lost 2-1.
SA = Lost 3-0.
NZ = Lost 3-0.
AND not won any of the last 6 ICC LOI comps.
#hype
@ICC
@MRFWorldwide
Babar Azam's ODI centuries:
2 in Eng - 1 vs NZ.
1 in Aus.
1 in SA.
5 in UAE - 3 vs WI, 2 vs SL.
2 in Pak - 1 vs SL, 1 vs Zim.
1 in WI.
1 in Zim.
How can you Indians call him Zimbabar when only 2 of his 13 ODI centuries were against them? One was vs a decent Zim attack-Muzarabani.
@SayAdipurush
I don't expect you Indians to know much about him because he has played 96 Tests but 0 vs your lot thanks to
@narendramodi
.
Only Cook and Root have faced more balls than him in Test Cricket since July 2010.
#education
4 years today Misbah ul Haq led Pakistan to the top of the Test rankings for the first time. A phenomenal achievement for a team in exile. In their last 10 Test series since mid 2013 they had won 4 Test series, drawn 5 Test series and lost only 1 Test series to get there in 2016.
@Sandeep_Bhaiya_
@CricCrazyJohns
The Ashes was also on ICC website. This is only for territories like France and Brazil where there is no broadcast.
Sky show in UK
Sky NZ show in NZ
Super Sport show in Africa
Major broadcasters are showing in the traditional cricket playing countries.
@ICC
India just stay in the top 2 of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship table with a draw in the new year Test in Sydney.
This is going down to the wire. So the equation now is 3 wins from 4 for Australia and 4 wins from 5 for India to make it to the Ageas Bowl (not Lord's).
@MazherArshad
Another really good ODI batter is Haris Sohail. Dropped from the squad based on his performances in Tests and T20Is. But he does have fitness and attitude problems too apparently. But he transformed Pakistan's 2019 WC campaign when he replaced Shoaib Malik in the playing XI then.
@SharmaStoic
@Sport360
"Those spell"
Learn English.
Then comment.
But it wasn't just one spell:
- 6 wickets at Lord's vs Bangladesh in the 2019 World Cup aged 19.
- 3 top order wickets vs NZ in the 2019 World Cup in a win aged 19.
- 10fer in a Test win over West Indies in Jamaica.
- PSL as Capt.
@ESPNcricinfo
Before anyone passes judgement without knowing the full facts, ICC is not that dumb where teams who have simply played more Tests have the advantage. No international sporting league could be so farcical. Just a basic table posted.
This is more comprehensive if you don't get it.
@ICC
Something to cheer up Pakistani supporters.
India will drop to 8% with defeat at Lord's today.
World Champions
@BLACKCAPS
also started their
#WTC21
campaign with a defeat.
On the plus side a chance for Pakistan to be dominant in Tests again in the next 2 years. Next 8 series all at home or vs lower ranked teams away:
SA home.
Zim away.
WI away.
BD away.
Aus home.
SL away.
NZ home.
Eng home.
Chance to climb up the rankings & reach 2023 WTC final.
@BLACKCAPS
NZ haven't won a Test in India since 1988.
WI haven't won a Test in NZ since 1995.
England haven't won an away Test vs Pak since 2000.
SL have never won a Test in Ind or Aus.
NZ have never won a Test series vs SA.
But none of that matters as Pakistan last won in Aus in 1995.
Best thing about Pakistan Cricket this decade has been their Test results vs England. Never had a more dominant decade against them:
50s = 1 win.
60s = 0 wins.
70s = 0 wins.
80s = 4 wins.
90s = 4 wins.
2000s = 3 wins.
2010s = 9 wins.
Plus wins in CT17 & CWC19 vs their best ODI XI
@ICC
Before anybody passes judgement without knowing the full facts, check this table please:
- Who has played who?
- Who has played what at home and away?
- Which series and teams have been impacted by covid?
- What is left in the schedule?
- Which teams are mathematically out of it?
@cricketaakash
Is that approach possible with Pujara at 3 and a head Coach who once scored 12 from 96 balls as Captain when his team had a lead of 319?
#blockers
@CricCrazyJohns
Only team to reach 5 T20WC semis is Pakistan.
8 consecutive wins for Pakistan in ICC Events.
15 consecutive wins for Pakistan in T20Is in the UAE.
Who is India? - a team that has never won a T20I in the UAE
@bhogleharsha
The greatest escape in Pakistan Cricket since 1958 when they drew a Test after conceding a first innings lead of 473 with ages to go in the game. I don't know the exact numbers but I reckon win wiz had a Pakistan defeat at 85% at stumps on day 3 after they conceded a lead of 408.
@CricCrazyJohns
3 months today the WTC final starts.
If Indian batters want some advice on how to be successful in Southampton talk with
@AzharAli_
because he made 141* there in a Test in August. Also, knows how to perform in finals in UK, made 59 in CT17 final. And in Jan made 93 vs NZ attack.
@CricCrazyJohns
Forget about T20. Concentrate on proper cricket.
Virat Kohli has lost his last 4 overseas Tests as Captain by big margins.
Not scored an international century since 2019.
Not ideal for the Ind Capt to have such stats going into a series in Eng where Ind's lost 12 of last 15 Tests
@CricCrazyJohns
Next up for Pakistan in the next 14 months:
ODIs and T20Is in Eng.
T20Is and Tests in WI.
ODIs vs Afg in UAE.
ODIs and T20Is vs NZ in Pak.
T20Is vs Eng in Pak.
T20 WC.
Tests in Bang.
ODIs and T20Is vs WI in Pak.
Tests and ODIs vs Aus in Pak.
Tests in Sri Lanka.
0 games vs Zim...
@ICC
We (Pakistanis) will also try to beat England this year in an ODI series. Before you Indians laugh at me, remember we beat them in the 2017 Champions Trophy semi final and 2019 World Cup pool game when they were hosting those events. I personally have a ticket for Sat 10th July.
@ESPNcricinfo
India were chasing 444 to win.
Babar helped Pakistan escape defeat to finish on 443/7 batting last against the Aussies. Virat couldn't do a Babar.
You might argue about conditions. But the sun was out and the pitch was playing pretty well in South London
