We have to stop the ticks. Flood the earth? Modern day ice age? I'm spitballing. There are no bad ideas.

If "three strikes" laws seem overly draconian to too many people, we could easily get ~the same outcomes with ten strikes.
A third of all shoplifting arrests in NYC in 2022 were due to just 327 people. That's 0.00385% of the population doing 33% of the crime!. This guy is one of them. Lock him up.

Let us all ponder this, lest we be moral simpletons.
@simoj_ how many pounds of salami would it take for me to get you to turn your mom over to isis.

People who write like this have had no real contact with the poor.
"going on disability means you will not work, you will not get a raise, you will not get whatever meaning people get from work. you will be poor for the rest of your life. That's the deal. And it's a deal 14 million Americans have signed up for."

I probably understated the "really, really loves you" bit. Like, while your kid is little it doesn't even occur to her that she *could* not love you.
You know, at the end of the day it is exactly what it sounds like. There's a little person in your house with high needs who really, really loves you and you are responsible for her being okay 24/7. Is that a delight or a horror? You tell me.

At the risk of (indirectly) responding to an A*lla post, we have really oversold the misery and drudgery of caring for children because of a bottomless desire for female victimhood.

Honestly, my deepest objection is that even considering how many shrimp you'd kill another human being for is poisonous to the psyche. Just as you shouldn't consider how much $ you'd take to cheat on your spouse, etc. It's a bad hobby and compelling others to participate is bad.
@webdevMason 10^100 is a really big number tho. Why object "that would be an undesirable trade" instead of "that trade will never be offered"?. (There's a decision theory point here that decisions rest on probutils not utils and so you might be mistaken about where your "nope" originates).

IMO trying to force a sort of religious guilt on people for not forcibly rearranging their own empathy circuits according to a continuously evolving crowdsourced logic is EA's original sin. Care about what you care about, try to act on the world accordingly.
I have to be honest, even if it gets me cancelled: nothing has turned me against the effective altruist crowd more than "shrimp welfare.".
