The heat in America is scaring me. It’s still winter. What the hell is coming this year. It’s totally possible climate scientists have massively understmated the rate of global warming. They are debating it at the moment. I’m scared.

Streets designed slow enough for walking & biking & kids & yes, cars & skateboarders & grandmas & birds & trees & wandering and you don’t have to separate every user into designated spaces and we all mix together comfortably are the best streets
Quite a fan of that "costal town with bushy streets" aesthetic. People tend to walk freely down the middle of the road until a car comes and despite mostly unposted speed limits, cars appear to travel around 30-35 km/h.

Make America Great Again
The history books quietly bypassed is that Barack Obama, during the most pressure-saturated nights of his presidency, would retreat alone to the Treaty Room on the second floor of the White House residence — not to strategize, not to take calls, but to handwrite personal letters

We know why.
"Last year, as tourism grew worldwide, the United States was the only major destination to see a decline in foreign visitors, recording a 6 percent drop, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council." https://t.co/3jVEUpPJuv

Making streets for all, seeing streets as building connections, building community & part of the economy & elevating them to beauty as space requires the car speed to be reduced.
The best bike plan starts with a better car plan. Dutch cities don’t just graft bike lanes onto busy streets. They practice “ontvlechten”; structurally untangling cycling and driving by limiting car speed and access. Fewer conflicts. Calmer streets. Networks that actually work.

She won gold in the Olympics, but also wins what’s best of the USA. An immigrant story, an embrace of originality & freedom, strength of women, a Donna Summer song that breaks the mold for ice skating, incredible athleticism & skill , a hair flip. A quintessentially American tale
I can’t pretend to know shit about the technical aspects of ice skating, but this was an absolute joy to watch.

By accepting large numbers of refugees--political, religious, economic--we not only improve their lives, we remind ourselves that America is exceptional, a country committed to freedom, self-invention, and a constant state of becoming.

Yesterday was heavy. The world is heavy. I felt the heartbreak of it all and the obligation to stand in that moment as a vessel of hope. The only thing more powerful than hate is love đź’•

Read her words.

A 14-year-old girl Kristi Noem has kept in ICE detention for 20 days.

This is who ICE calls “the worst of the worst”.  We cannot continue to fund this insanity.

Hundreds of children are currently being held with their parents at an immigration detention center in Dilley, Texas. In letters and drawings, eight kids convey the pain of feeling trapped with no end in sight. https://t.co/d74IPKyafe
