Another example of Vancouver’s BAIT & SWITCH approach to rezoning, supported by Green Pete Fry and One City Lucy Maloney, as well as ABC. COPE Sean Orr abstention was weak — a vote in opposition was clearly called for.

Remember what happened when Canada line construction closed down businesses prior to 2010 on Vancouver’s Cambie Street, many could not recover. There was ample time for the province & CITY to prepare for this, ensure that businesses still got access. It’s simply inexcusable.

Director Real Estate Services Jerry Evans said there was an “independent third-party appraisal”. Actually, staff gave the appraiser specific instructions to ignore the proposed rezoning and highest and best use of the land, and to base value solely on the existing RS-5 zoning.
