Kudos to @AllisonDoerr14 and all the editors who have championed credit for methods developers for 20 years 👏. The landscape has changed, with more ways now to recognize these critical contributions to science. But there's so much more to do!.
In this month's Editorial, we take a look back on the past two decades of methods development for basic research in the life sciences. With comments about the early days of the journal from @verokiermer, the first chief editor of Nature Methods.

Very excited to start this work and very grateful for the support by @MooreFound and @RWJF which will enable us to meaningfully engage the research community in designing new solutions to increase access and participation in #openscience .

Great study, evidencing a problem that most researchers have experienced: the dreadful citation trail to understand the methods. and some very useful recommendations. It doesn't have to be like this!.
#ShortcutCitations: using citations instead of describing methods may compromise #reproducibility. Analysis of >800 papers shows that >90% use ≥1 shortcut citation; these significantly impair reconstruction of the original method @questBIH #PLOSBiology
